Fantasy Impact: The Washington Capitals have traded Filip Forsberg to the Nashville Predators for Martin Erat and Michael Latta, per TSN.

The Capitals get: a first-liner for 10 games, then a third-liner for 10 games. Erat is a stud for three weeks, and then disappears for stretches. If the Caps can get this guy going consistently, they have themselves a star.

The Predators get: a foward with an upside that exceeds anything currently in their system, if you don’t count Alexander Radulov. Filip Forsberg could be a 75-point player, although with the Preds I would be surprised if he ever made it to 65. The point is, his skill is in line with that of a Colin Wilson. The team has a lot of depth up front so it is entirely possible that they give Forsberg a year in the AHL.

Fantasy Players Impacted: Any prospect going from Team X to Nashville drops in value. His ceiling drops, that’s just the way it is. So Forsberg, as a prospect, loses value unfortunately. But taking Erat out of the lineup will see to it that Craig Smith stops getting scratched, so there’s that.

In Washington, Wojtek Wolski can kiss his ice time goodbye. What little he was getting. This could hurt Troy Brouwer or Marcus Johansson or Brooks Laich – one of the three. Here are my thoughts on some line combos:

Johansson – Nicklas Backstrom – Alex Ovechkin

Erat – Mike Ribeiro – Brouwer

Chimera – Laich – Fehr

Perreault – Beagle – Ward

Hendricks

On the outside looking in: Wolski and Aaron Volpatti

As for Erat himself – this works in the reverse too: Nashville to Team X is an increase in value.

Fantasy Players this helps, in order:

1. Erat

Fantasy Players this hurts, in order:

1. Forsberg

2. Wolski

3. Laich

4. Fehr

5. Brouwer
