Breaking down the fantasy impact of P.A. Parenteau signing with the New York Islanders …

Fantasy Impact: P.A. Parenteau signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the New York Islanders Saturday, July 2.

The Islanders add: A familiar player who had the best stint of his career over a two-year stretch with the Islanders during the 2010-11 and '11-2012 seasons. In his age-27 and -28 campaigns, Parenteau combined for 38 goals and 120 points over 161 games.

He followed it up with a productive two-year stretch with Colorado (76 points through 103 games) before bottoming out with the Canadiens during the 2013-14 season. However, Parenteau posted his second 20-goal showing last year with the Maple Leafs, which included seven power-play goals to prove the offensive ability is still in tact.

And while the 33-year-old journeyman reaffirmed he's a capable secondary scorer, he also posted his best possession season (54.6 CorsiFor percentage) with the basement-dwelling Maple Leafs last season. And don't forget, Parenteau also has prior chemistry with John Tavares, which might be the biggest aspect of this signing.

Fantasy Take: Head coach John Capuano mixed and matched his lines throughout the  2015-16 season, and it resulted in a fantasy nightmare behind and around Tavares. Parenteau goes from being a key cog offensively in Toronto to a complimentary piece with the Islanders.

However, the potential of reuniting with Tavares far outweighs his fantasy surroundings in Toronto. Additionally, prior to his one-year hiatus with the Habs, Parenteau proved capable of being a contributing scorer alongside high-end talent. Remember, with Colorado, his most frequent linemate with Matt Duchene.

Also, during Parenteau's time with the Islanders, he combined for a solid 2.84 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five with John Tavares.

Fantasy Players Impacted: Starting with Parenteau, there is huge potential for this to be a positive. Should he land on Tavares' flank for the majority of the season, Parenteau would easily project for 20 goals and 50 points. Parenteau is also a sneaky contributor in the penalty minute department and has a respectable floor when handed a top-six role.

The Andrew Ladd signing screams supporting piece more than top-line winger, but everything for the Islanders is in a wait-and-see phase right now.

A Brock Nelson-Ladd-whoever line projects to be able to be a matchup against opposing top lines competently, which would leave Ryan Strome, Josh Bailey, Anders Lee and Parenteau as potential suitors for the No. 1 line.
