The rumored Milan Michalek deal is now official – he has been signed for six years.
Bryan Berard has been invited to training camp by the New York Islanders. With Bergeron, Witt, Martinek, Sutton, Gervais, Johnson, Campoli and Meyer already there, I'm not sure what chance Berard has of cracking the lineup. Thanks to 'Butch' for the link.
Stephen Weiss was given a six-year contract yesterday by the Panthers. He has great potential and I've always been a fan…but he is one of the bigger Band-Aid boys in the NHL. Last year was his healthiest season. He's a dark horse for 70 points this season, but expect somewhere in the low 60s. It will depend on how many games he gets in of course.
The Kings signed defenseman Drew Bagnall to a multi-year deal. Bagnall, a Dallas draft pick (and later traded to Florida for Valeri Bure), had reasonable offensive numbers for a rearguard last year playing in the ECAC. The 23-year-old likely will not make the squad this year, since the team is already set. This is strictly a Manchester move.
TSN is reporting that there is a decent possibility that Eric Lindros will announce his retirement soon. His fantasy-stud days are well behind him anyway, as he is a shadow of his former self.
The Flyers are removing the goal judge area behind the net and replacing them with luxury seats complete with waiters/waitresses etc. The cost to have them for a season? You need to get them as part of a package – you need to buy a luxury suite as well. The cost of a suite plus six 'goal-judge' seats for one season? $225,000 bones.
