The Canucks, unhappy with his minus-4 last night and minus-7 on the season, have assigned Ryan Shannon to Manitoba. He has the same points this season as Naslund, who is a minus-6…but Naslund is a proven commodity whereas Shannon is still finding his way in the NHL. Losing 8-2, someone had to take the fall, and Shannon is on a two-way contract. Don't give up on him yet. Thanks to Duane for the link.

Ales Kotalik will be back in the lineup tonight.

Brandon Bochenski dressed last night, but played zero minutes. Incredibly, David Krejci played 24:40 last night to lead all Bruins in the game in ice time. That includes Chara.

Bryan Berard played 8:21 in his first game of the season, 5:43 of which was on the power play. He scored a goal.

Marcel Hossa played 16:02 and picked up an assist in his first game of the season.

Columbus future power forward Jared Boll scored his first goal of his career last night, despite just six minutes of ice time.

Brett Sterling received the extra ice time given by Hossa's absence – 17:24 to be exact – but blew it. Not only was he pointless, but was a minus-2. His PP time was still surprisingly low – just under two minutes. It looks like Todd White is filling the void on the PP for now. I'm not sure how many more chances Sterling will get.

Jack Johnson picked up his first NHL point – an assist – last night. Still getting just 52 seconds of PP time though, as the team brings him along slowly.

In his first NHL game, James Sheppard played 11:43 and did not see a single second on the power play. Matt Foy was a healthy scratch again for the Wild.

Carey Price made 26 saves and picked up the win in his NHL debut.

Tom Priessing missed last night's contest because of the flu.

RJ Umberger returned to the Philly lineup last night and picked up two points in their 8-2 shelacking over the Canucks.

Roberto Luongo gave up four goals on 13 shots before getting the hook.  Ryan Kesler left the game after getting cross-checked in the face. He has a sore jaw but did not go to the hospital. Philly's Jesse Boulerice will likely be suspended for the incident.

Ryan Shannon scored a goal in the 8-2 loss, which is good. He was also a minus-4, which is bad.

Jarkko Ruutu was a healthy scratch last night for the Penguins.

Ladislav Nagy and Michal Handzus played just 13 minutes each. Cammalleri, Kopitar, Brown and Frolov are getting the big minutes while Nagy, Handzus, O'Sullivan and Calder hover around the 13 minute mark.

Paul Mara was a healthy scratch again for the Rangers.

Chris Osgood got the start last night because Hasek has a bruised knee suffered in practice. Osgood may get another start or two before Hasek is back between the pipes.

Andrei Zyuzin missed yesterday's contest with a groin strain.

While Sami Pahlsson was back last night, J-S Giguere is now eyeing Sunday for his return.

Mike Peca was back in the lineup last night, in his debut for the Blue Jackets.

E-mail campaign. Let's get the shift charts back on NHL.com. If you have already done this…well do it again! The shift charts are still not back up. I can give you a lot more information in my daily ramblings if the shift charts were back – and you can find out a lot of info yourself.  Visit this page and then click "contact us" at the bottom. Tell them that you need the shift charts back and why. Already, dozens of readers have done this, but we need all the help we can get. LINK

Bought the Pool Guide? Here is a one-page supplemental sheet to give you the update (updated to October 7, 2007).
