With the holiday season coming up, and jewelry commercials saturating all forms of media and consciousness, I thought I’d talk about NHL players have been certifiable gems thus far this season, as well as some that have been absolute fool’s gold.

Let's try not to address the same tired old players that you’ve heard about time and time again.  Everyone and their mother knows that Nik Antropov, Matt Cullen and Mike Richards are producing at an amazing rate. These columns will address players that you haven’t yet read about in other articles.

First off this week, let me apologize to all who listened to my advice and got rid of Nik Antropov. I was way wrong on him. He’s been scorching hot lately and it now looks like his fast start was for real. He may just have a shot at 80 points if he stays healthy. You should still expect ups and downs throughout the season though. What can I say? Sometimes you hit it on the head, like I did with Martin Gerber and Mike Comrie and sometimes you’re off the mark.

Sheldon Souray has been activated off of IR by the Oilers. Expect him back next game. Roy, by the way, cleared waivers and was assigned to Springfield.  If Haydar clears, then apparently Atlanta has 10 games to make a move, so he can stay on the roster. This may just be setting the table for something [...]
