My column is a couple of days late this week and it’ll be a short one since I just moved into a new house last week and there are a million things to get done. Despite my busy days, I found the time to pull off a huge deal in the Dobber Expert League. An 11-player trade that will have major repercussions on the outcome of the season. One of the most fun aspects of fantasy sports is the opportunity to act like a general manager and to some wheeling and dealing so it’s always a rush when you pull off a huge transaction. Here is the detailed analysis of the trade and how you can achieve such deals in your fantasy league.

We’re now at the first quarter mark of the 2008-09 NHL season so it’s time to get out the first grades and who better to evaluate than yours truly to give you an idea if you’re in good hands when the Fantasy Frog gives you advice. That’s right, in this column I am evaluating myself by looking back at the advice I offered in this year’s Dobber Fantasy Guide where I listing 20 players whose stock I expected to drop this season and where the names you found were not the easy ‘anybody could have told you’ names you found in most other fantasy guides.

Frog or Prince – part 2

After taking a look at players who seemed to have turned into unforeseen princes in my last article, this week I’m focusing on players who’ve been mainly frogs this season when you expected them to be your fantasy team princes. You’ll notice that there have been much more disappointments this season than there have been pleasant surprises.

It’s still early in the season, but with teams having played between 7 and 12 games fantasy owners are now starting to wonder about certain players. Are the ones who are off to surprisingly hot starts for real and inversely are the ones who are off to unexpectedly cold stars going to come out of their funk? In the first of a two part series, I’ll take a look at players who seem to have turned into unforeseen princes for fantasy owners and reveal whether their production will remain princely or whether these early season princes will turn back into frogs.

It’s not easy to make it in the NHL, it’s a big step up from junior hockey and the American Hockey League. So it’s not unusual for players to struggle as rookies and then take a big step up during their second season once they know what to expect and have made the necessary adjustments to their play and approach to the game. Here are nine sophomore players who seem to have adjusted very well to the NHL since they are off to very nice starts this season.

The season got off to a slow start last weekend in Europe. Despite the quality of the four teams involved, the games lacked in quality and entertainment value. But hey, it is early in the season and all the kinks aren’t ironed out yet for several teams. However, despite the limited action there was some important information coming out of last weekend’s games plus the late training camp cuts and here is an overview of the impacts on fantasy hockey.

Fantasy Hockey Industry Experts League

DobberHockey Fantasy Hockey Experts

Eric Maltais recently hosted the third annual Industry Experts Fantasy League. DobberHockey has always had a strong presense in this one - Dobber exploded out of the gates the first year, leading for the better part of five months before injuries took the big man down in the final weeks. Last season, DobberHockey's Maltais won the whole she-bang. This year will be no different.

The format has changed this year to that of a keeper league. Below is an uncensored account of the draft from Eric Maltais (okay - it's censored once...Dobber's call!)

A good fantasy draft requires preparation, but no matter how much preparation and reading up you’ve done, you’re always at risk of getting caught up in the fast pace of the draft and forgetting key picks leaving you frustrated when their names are called out by other owners.

Hidden gems!

You’d imagine with teams reaching the 50-game mark in the season that serious fantasy players would know everyone there is to know about in the NHL, but whatever the level of the league you play in I can guarantee that there are some hidden gems available either on the waiver wire or that you can acquire cheaply via trade. So here are ten players who are currently flying under the radar, but whom I expect will draw a lot of attention during the next 30 games or so.
