Patrick Lalime

Remember when Patrick Lalime was the scorching hot starter for the Ottawa Senators and was averaging more than 30 wins for four consecutive seasons? That sure seems like ancient times to all you fantasy hockey freaks, but for him it’s a vivid memory, as if it were only yesterday. The same feeling is shared with Chicago Blackhawks head coach Dennis Savard, who continues to roll with his philosophy of playing the hot goaltender and has put his trust in Lalime for the time being. Fortunately, it’s paying off when the organization needs it most.

Sidney Crosby has been placed on injured reserve. The swelling in his ankle is still too much for proper evaluation, so doctors will look at it tomorrow now. Be prepared for any news ranging from three weeks to 12 weeks, but my money is on that two to eight range. Adam Hall was also placed on [...]

‘The Kid’ is Injured. So Now What?

Sidney Crosby

Sidney Crosby, originally diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain but will undergo an MRI Monday to find out for sure, could be on the shelf for as long as eight weeks. High-ankle sprains are the worst kind, keeping the likes of Martin Havlat (19 games last season), Marc-Andre Fleury (19 games and counting), Maxim Talbot (18 games) for extended periods of time. If he does indeed have a high-ankle sprain, reports of “out for four weeks” is a pipe dream. Crosby is tough and his legs are incredibly strong, so the best-case scenario is six weeks and it could be closer to eight. If the MRI finds a fracture, it may even be 10 weeks.

So what are the repercussions in the fantasy world?

Jose Theodore will start for the eighth straight game today.   In the four games since Gagne's return, Briere has scored three goals and had two assists, while Gagne has scored two and two.  Todd Bertuzzi is still rolling, as he has 20 points in the last 18 games now. Dan Cleary, another streaky player to watch, [...]
