Sabre Rattling

Don’t look now, but the Buffalo Sabres are the hottest team in the NHL, riding an 8-0-2 record over their last ten games. That hot streak has moved them into seventh place in the Eastern Conference, only one point ahead of Boston and the Rangers. The Sabres are learning that life isn’t all bad after losing their top two centers to free agency over the summer.

I apologize for the crappy flash ads - I am working with my ad network to make it stop. No, you aren't a winner and no you aren't the 637,222,137th person to see the banner. The ad network tells me it has something to do with Canada's feed. The US visitors aren't seeing the bad [...]

Ryan Shannon is centering the second line tonight for the Canucks.  Expect him to get his fair share of powerplay time as well.  His creativity is something the Canucks lack, so expect some points in the short-term.  Nikolai Khabibulin sprained his knee last night and called up Corey Crawford this morning. Jack Skille was sent to [...]

My weekly fantasy mailbag for The Hockey News is now up.  Lukas Krajicek is most likely going to require season-ending shoulder surgery.  Expect to see a lot of Luc Bourdon down the stretch and in the playoffs, if the Canucks make it.  Gagne feels better but will remain out of action for four more days.  Scottie Upshall [...]

An Expert’s Audit – February, 2008

Welcome once again to “An Expert’s Audit”. This audit will also be posted here as well as on my fantasy hockey blog at www.fantasyhockey.hockeyanalysis.com . I also do weekly reviews of teams for people who email in to me for a look-see. These audits will continue to appear here monthly and if you’re interested in having your keeper team “worked over” then you can begin by emailing Dobber about it.

This month’s audit goes to the team of a Brit. I picked him because his team and league interested me, and I haven’t met any puckhead Brits before. I also figured I might be able to help. But do we really speak the same language?

Dobber Blogs on the perfect NHL scouting staff. Why doesn't anyone do this?  Russ Miller Blogs on visors, neck protectors and the NHLPA's incompetance .   As I indicated last week, Sheldon Souray is out for the season. Now the other media outlets are starting to catch up! John Ferguson Jr has signed on as an analyst with [...]

Dobber Experts Pool – January Update

Dobber

Now that the All-Star game is behind us, we are about to begin our stretch run.  January was an interesting month in the Dobber Experts pool.  While The Comish is still out front by 16.5 points, at one point the lead had shrunk to only five points.  Angus has reduced his projected games played at centre from plus-23 to only plus-6. In doing so, he has allowed Notch to move up and compete for second place. The two have been swapping positions on almost a daily basis.

10 Goalies Under Pressure

The playoff race is heating up and the trade deadline is just two weeks away. For us fantasy freaks, it’s an exciting time where every morning is like your birthday. But for goaltenders, it’s a much more ominous feeling, as the intensity level of games starts to rise and there’s no longer any room for error. There’s no time for mental mistakes. Every play is that much more important and it’s all put on the line for a mere two points in the standings. On top of it all, many are constantly a part of trade rumors.
So which ten goalies are facing the most pressure as March approaches? Which goalies are the most important to their team’s success? You can make a case for all 30 starting goalies, as every team has a legitimate chance to make it to the playoffs.
