Sean Avery has a lacerated spleen and was rushed to hospital. He will fully recover over the summer, but is done for the playoffs. All one game of it. Avery will be a UFA this summer.  Paul Stastny left last night's contest in the first period with a knee injury. He did not return and will [...]

To Poach or not to Poach

Kevin Lowe, GM of the Oilers, made splashes around the league last season when he made two stunning offers to two restricted free agents during the off-season. Prior to Lowe’s two incidences last off-season, there wasn’t too much drama with restricted free agents except for the Ryan Kesler incident in 2006, but generally GM’s tend to believe that it is an unwritten rule that restricted free agents are hands off to other GMs, until Lowe came along last season that is… Below is a list of the notable eligible restricted free agents taken from the website, www.nhlscap.com along with their current salaries at the end of this season.

The Coyotes have signed Oshawa sniper Brett MacLean to an entry level contract. MacLean ranks 39th on my fantasy prospects list and has a 40-goal future in the NHL on a young Phoenix team. I don't expect him to make the team this year - but it is possible.  Do you guys really need the latest [...]

Sergei Zubov played 16:19 in his return to the ice last night, notching an assist on the winning goal. Patrick Marleau was pointless and a minus-2 last night, starting to iron out his playoff reputation a little more. Fabian Brunnstrom reminds Boston GM Peter Chiarelli of a Holmstrom-Alffy hybrid. The 6'2, 200 pound Brunnstrom is reportedly considering [...]

Johan Franzen – Éclosion tardive?

 Johan Franzen

It’s not often that a 24 year old gets drafted. At that point, if the player is good enough to be drafted, then there are 30 teams who could have just signed him at any time during the preceding few years.

But in 2004, the Red Wings were at it again, grabbing 24-year-old Johan Franzen 97th overall. His 30 points in 49 contests in the Swedish Elite League that year was a big jump from the six points that he had in the preceding campaign.

Don't know if Hallsey caught this last week, but the Pens signed Dobber's next big thing Luca Caputi to a three-year entry level deal. A highly-skilled winger who does nothing but post big-time points... in an organization with Crosby, Malkin and Staal at center. He has already rocketed up to No.32 on my Fantasy Prospects [...]

Sergei Zubov took the morning skate yesterday but was not ready to play. With Dallas up in the series, do not expect to see him back in Game 2 either. Philippe Boucher is traveling with the team but refuses to discuss the status of his injury. Don't know what to take from that, so I'll leave [...]

Angus here... The Selke nominations are out. Datsyuk (again), Zetterberg, and Madden are the finalists. The Detroit forwards are deserving, as both put up stellar numbers while shutting down the opposition. I'd give the award to Madden, who was a beast for the Devils (and managed to pot 20 goals). Michael Leighton made 98 saves last [...]
