Angus here. Glen Murray has cleared waivers and will be bought out. San Jose may be a good fit for him, as it would allow him to re-unite with his buddy Joe. Colin Wilson will return to BU for at least one more season. At least he didn't follow Radulov to the KHL! This just in: Mats Sundin [...]

As the number of keeper league hockey pools increase each year, fantasy junkies are becoming more active in the off-season as they prepare for the coming year. Rebuild? Retool? Tweak? Whatever your intentions, it helps to get all the information you can about your players. FPL will look at a pair of teams each week and give you the fantasy lowdown. This week, we’ll look through our fantasy hockey goggles at the outlooks for Detroit and Edmonton.

The Red Wings have signed Darren Haydar to a one-year deal. The AHL superstar will fill the role that Hartigan filled last season - used only when needed. It's a shame no NHL team ever gave him a real chance. With what little he played for Atlanta last season, he did produce. The Sabres have signed [...]

The Ducks signed a pair of minor leaguers yesterday: former Oilers farmhand Troy Bodie and former Flame Ryan Donally. The Rangers have re-signed Hugh Jessiman, likely to a two-way contract. Daniel Carcillo has signed a two-year deal with Phoenix. Expect pretty much double the points and half the PIMs next year, with all the changes the 'Yotes [...]

Jack Johnson’s Time to Shine

 Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson has gone from promising rookie to “the man” on Los Angeles’ back end without even playing a game. The Kings have parted ways with Rob Blake (signed by San Jose), and Lubomir Visnovsky (traded to Edmonton), who were both above Johnson on the defensive depth chart. He is now positioned as the top defenseman in Los Angeles. What does that mean for his fantasy value?

Niko Dimitrakos has signed to play in the SEL next season. Yep, the hockey world is as slow as it gets right now.   The Rangers have re-signed Greg Moore to a contract. Duvie Westcott and Mark Hartigan have each signed with Dinamo Riga of the KHL for next season. Former NHLer Ronald Petrovicky has signed with [...]

The Bruins have avoided arbitration with Dennis Wideman, locking him up to a four year deal worth over $15 million. They are now over the salary cap. Joffrey Lupul's four year extension has been confirmed as a $4.25 million cap hit per season. Corey Crawford has signed a one-year deal with Chicago. It is likely a two-way, [...]

Logan MacMillan, ranked 264 on my Fantasy Prospects List, has signed a three-year entry deal with the Ducks. Stephane Veillieux must have come to his senses (see yesterday's ramblings) because he signed a one-year contract with the Wild. Aaron Portzline interviews Alexander Medvedev about Nikita Filatov. Buy, sell or hold?

Nik Zherdev

It was another frenzied first week of July in the NHL. Let’s ignore some of the insane dollar amounts that we have seen and look at things strictly from a fantasy-hockey standpoint. Using the “buy low” and “sell high” strategy, here are some key changes to the fantasy value of some of the players who have moved.

The Blackhawks have named Jonathan Toews their team captain. The Penguins have locked coach Michel Therrien in for three more years, ripping up the contract that had one more year left on it. The Sabres have signed Mark Mancari and Clarke MacArthur to their qualifying offers. Funny story in the Star Tribune. Stephane Veillieux, representing himself in negotiations, [...]
