The NHL has made a formal offer to arbitrate the Radulov case with the KHL on Monday. There is talk – and this is just some radio buzz – but there is talk that Alexander Radulov is having second thoughts. He's 21, and a lot of people that age really aren't sure what they want so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it were true. He's probably less than impressed about the size of the arenas there – it means less people to adore him. A few days ago I gave his odds of returning this year to 1%. I'll change that now to 5%.

 

The Calgary Sun is reporting that Mikael Backlund will return to Sweden rather than the AHL this season if he does not make the Flames. He probably won't crack the NHL lineup this year.
Minnesota rearguard Kurtis Foster skated yesterday for the first time since breaking his leg. He should be back for early November.

 

Detroit signed defenseman Kyle Quincey to a two-year, reportedly one-way deal (although not confirmed).

 

Carolina is working a long-term deal with Eric Staal.

 

The Panthers have signed Keith Ballard to a six-year contract extension worth just over $4 million per year.

 

Jordan Eberle, ranked 86 on the Fantasy Prospects List (for August – September will be updated later today) has put on 10 pounds over the summer. He has a slight frame, so that will only help him. He will play in the WHL this season and you will likely see him play for Team Canada at the World Juniors.
