This seems to happen to one player every year and it results in that players absense for at least two months. This year's lucky winner is Chris Mason. He underwent emergency an appendectomy last night. Look for Ben Bishop to get recalled. I felt that the Blues should have went with Bishop in the first place, but the team went out and acquired Mason in the summer.
Vancouver has placed Kyle Wellwood on waivers. He is pretty much done.
Daniel Carcillo has been suspended for two games for a couple of punches thrown from the bench on Ben Eager. He will return on October 23. My weekly roster in the Expert League had to be set by last night and I actually put him back in the lineup and benched the NHL's second leading scorer Paul Kariya because a) Kariya only plays two games this week and b) I need some PIMs. Well, that was a bad move, but dems da breaks.
Steve Sullivan expects to be back skating in November and hopes to play in December. Sullivan told mytimminstoday .com that recovery is going well but slow. You can read the full story HERE , but there is not much more to it.
Henrik Zetterberg's groin injury caused him to miss last night's contest and he will be sidelined until late October.
Brad Stuart took a hit on the knee and left last night's contest. There is no further word on his condition.
Jimmy Howard's broken finger has healed and he has been assigned to Grand Rapids.
The Wings have recalled Darren Helm.
Robert Nilsson took a puck off his foot Wednesday and has been hobbling around. However, MacT figures he will be good to go.
Matt Cooke missed last night's contest with an upper body injury.
Rick DiPietro is said to be ready to return, however Joey MacDonald still got the start last night.
Tuomo Ruutu is doubtful for tonight's contest with a groin injury.
Pekka Rinne will start tonight for the Preds.
Nikita Filatov will make his NHL debut tonight on a line with Modin and Murray.
The Jackets will start Leclaire tonight and Norrena tomorrow.
Tim Connolly continues to sit as he heals a hairline fracture in his vertebrae. He is still not skating.
Brian Rolston left in the third period of last night's contest with a sprained ankle. Expect him to be gone at least a week, but it looked pretty serious so the potential is there for a month or more of missed time.
The Devils scratched Anssi Salmela. They won the game 1-0, so I have a feeling that this how games will be for NJ once again. No scoring. Zzzzzzzzz
The Habs have sent Kyle Chipchura down to Hamilton.
Paul Ranger made his season debut last night for the Lightning, though he is still not 100 percent (shoulder)
The Lightning have re-assigned goalie Riku Helenius to the ECHL.
There is still no word on the nature of Marian Gaborik's injury. The Wild maintain that it is "lower body" in every single source I have dug up.
No word on how long Zidlicky's "severe ankle sprain" will keep him out, nor Bouchard's back injury.
Mikko Koivu had a five-point game last night, while Benoit Pouliot notched his first two points of the season.
Antti Miettinen had three points, including his fifth goal of the season. It's time to start taking him seriously as a fantasy player – although be forewarned he is streaky (remember Eric Belanger early last year?). Still, get him while he's hot.
As long as Zidlicky is sidelined, the Wild really need Bergeron. And he is taking full advantage with two points so far. If given enough time to prove himself, he could get his career back on track as a promising PP QB.
The Wild won 6-2 over Florida… yet James Sheppard was a minus-2. He is pointless and minus-4 this season.
Despite winning the game, the Caps received no points from Ovechkin last night. Fleischmann, Semin and Fehr had two points each.
Kris Letang was a minus-3 and saw his ice time slashed to 16 minutes last night. Goligoski saw more ice time than he did and scored a goal.
Tomas Vokoun got the hook last night after giving up four goals on 22 shots.
The Panthers scratched Anthony Stewart and Michal Frolik.
Brunnstrom followed up his star performance with a minus-2 and no points last night. He played 12:14 and had four shots on goal.
Marty Turco got the hook after giving up five in 18.
The Blues scratched Alex Pietrangelo
Andrew Raycroft only had to face 18 shots, but he got the win. That should be good enough to earn him the start on Saturday, but the Avs aren't saying.
