Dobber Sports

2008-11-24

TSN finally with a confirmed Luongo update. He is listed as week-to-week with an adductor strain.

Toronto has traded Alex Steen and Carlo Coliaicovo to St. Louis for Lee Stempniak. Analysis to come…

Carolina's first round pick in 2008 and the 113th ranked prospect on my Fantasy Prospects list Zach Boychuk will be the third guest on Wednesday's Dobber Nation radio show. Andrew Walker will also be interviewing JP from Japer's Rink and Justin Goldman, who penned today's "A New Empire's Birth ". Direct any questions to dobbernation @dobberhockey .com

There is no word on how long Mike Smith will be on the shelf for, but given that Kolzig was yanked, it would appear that Kari Ramo will get some starts under his belt. Smith has a lower body injury and the team is playing it down, calling it 'day to day'.

Both Jones and Hornqvist picked up points in their AHL game Saturday, giving them points in both of the games they have played down there. They will play one more and at that point the Preds will consider recalling one of them.

Scott Clemmensen has won three straight games and is poised to be the undisputed starter in NJ while the big man is sidelined. If so, there is a potential for 25 wins from this guy – who would have thought? He is 3-2 now, but allowed just two goals in each of his two losses.

Tarik El-Bashir reports in his blog that Mike Green will not play tonight and is shooting for Friday's game. Alexander Semin will also probably miss tonight's contest. Green skated yesterday, but his injury is to his shoulder.

Nathan Gerbe (BUF), ranked 48th in my Fantasy Prospects list, has 12 goals and 22 points in 16 AHL games. That's good for fifth in scoring and tops among rookies.

Tim Kennedy, another BUF prospect (ranked 62) has 21 AHL points.

Other interesting AHL observations (my prospect rank in brackets):

Janne Pesonen, PIT (99th) 21 points in 18 games
Oskar Osala, WAS (221st) 17 points in 20 games (13 of them goals)
Claude Giroux, PHI (9th) 17 in 20
Artem Anisimov, NYR (79th) 18 in 18
Petri Kontiola, CHI (78th) 17 in 18
Ryan Potulny, EDM (136th) 16 in 17
Rob Schremp, EDM (37th) 16 in 15

Cal O'Reilly, NSH (84th), 20 in 16
Brett Sterling, ATL (56th), 4 in 7 and three in his last three

Keeping Karlsson Short Shifts – Thanks for Vejmelkmories

Elizabeth and Lewis reunite to bring you all the latest fantasy news and strategy, such as how our siblings would fare if called on to fill our roles like Owen Sillinger did for bro Cole. Then it’s onto news including coverage of the postponed CGY/LAK game and defensive injuries piling up in MIN and putting some strain on Gustavsson’s performance. Injuries and outjuries include a pair of goalies returning to their teams in Ingram and Shesterkin, as well as how Monahan’s wrist injury opens the door for big minutes for Fantilli. Finally, the pair touch on Voronkov and PLD’s hot streaks, and discuss John Carlson’s rollercoaster in light of Chychrun’s production.

Keeping Karlsson: Tuch Hunch

On this edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast mega-show, Elan and Brian tour every team, ranking a slate of the least bad goalies, noticing the wind in some Red Wings’ and Stars’ sails, dangling snoozer status above a pair of commonly rostered power-play quarterbacks, and rushing or strolling, accordingly, to some skaters on the up and up.
