If you bought my Prospects Report you would already know all about this guy. In fact, I touted him in the Fantasy Guide as well. Sami Lepisto is a promising offensive defenseman and he has three points in four games for the Caps since his call up.
Curtis Glencross, 25, has 10 points in his last nine games for Calgary.
Paul Kariya remains off the ice, resting his hip. The Blues play five games in seven days beginning tomorrow, so it is likely he will miss all five. The experts say he just needs rest.
TJ Oshie is back skating lightly, but is still a week or two away.
J.P. from Japer's Rink informed me that the Caps have recalled the AHL's leading scorer Keith Aucoin and in practice he is centering the second line with Fleischmann and Kozlov. Nylander has been moved to the wing on the top line. I don't recommend Aucoin… but it's worth watching.
James Neal and Mike Ribeiro were each minus-3 last night. With Neal, as a rookie, he may see less ice time next game – it all depends on the coach, but it's something to watch for. With Ribeiro, it is another indication that, for now at least, he is lost without Morrow. Ribeiro has two points in his last eight games and is a minus-3.
With Sean Avery out of the lineup, Krys Barch saw over seven minutes of ice time. He got zero PIMs though, which is the whole point of him in fantasy hockey. Suddenly, Dallas is without any PIM guys with Morrow, Ott and Avery out.
Andrew Hutchinson made his Dallas debut and was a plus-1. He played 14 minutes and manned the second PP unit.
Erik Cole saw zero PP time. That never happened in Carolina. Cole is a 45-point player if he doesn't have PP time.
Rob Schremp saw 15 minutes of ice time last night and picked up his first NHL point – an assist. That certainly earns him a longer look. The Oilers did everything right with his development – a lot of teams would have rushed him and he would have failed. Now… I think he'll succeed in the NHL and perhaps even become a star.
The big injury news from yesterday – Sakic out for six weeks with a back injury – frankly, I don't think you'll get 30 games out of him this year and I think he will retire in the summer. Danny Briere will sit for 4-5 weeks, and I think it will be closer to six.
The 'Yotes acquired one of Dobber's favorite AHLers Joakim Lindstrom. Some players could thrive in the NHL on the right team given the right chance, but most of those players are on the wrong team and never given that chance. Lindstrom is one of them. I don't know if Phoenix is the right team, but the are certainly more open to younger players getting a shot.
MA Fleury worked out on the ice yesterday. No word on a return date.
Pekka Rinne will get his third start in four games today. Don't say I didn't warn you – he will eventually be the No.1 guy this season.
The Devils sent down Anssi Salmela to the AHL.
Sorry Ottawa fans, but I think it's terrible that their offense is only coming from their big line. Granted, Donovan and Bell scored (meaningless) goals last night, but every game they play when you check the summary, their goals seem to come from three players and you always seem to be surprised if another name slips into the summary. That won't get them into the playoffs. Antoine Vermette needs to start scoring. Ryan Shannon is a start – the small winger was back in the lineup and played… eight minutes. But he got an assist. The team needs another dimension, or even that first line will underacheive. I thought Vermette was ready to become that 65 or 70-point guy this season, but I was way off.
After getting two points in 11 games to start the year, Mikhail Grabovski has 16 in his last 14.
Aaron Voros has four points in his last 20 contests. He played fewer than nine minutes in four of his last six games. Guess he really can't be a 45-point agitator after all.
