 Tim Celebrates- AP

It's been a long time boys. DobberBaseball and the 2009 Fantasy Guide have consumed me for the last two months. No longer. It is time to get back to basics. Time to go retro. It's time The Status Report returns to hockey.

This week we'll discuss the intriguing fantasy phenomenon known as Tim Connolly. Value investment or fantasy detriment? At a certain point, this players value will switch from one definition to the other. In addition, a classic conclusion with sell highs, buy lows and other category reports on some of the more notable of the fantasy fringe.

Complacency is Never a Good Thing

Dictionary.com defines complacency as, “a feeling of quiet pleasure or security, often while unaware of some potential danger, defect, or the like; self-satisfaction or smug satisfaction with an existing situation, condition, etc.”. Complacency is one of the most dangerous aspects of fantasy hockey. You might be enjoying a 20-point lead in your roto-league, but that can vanish very easily in a course of two-to-three weeks. Complacency is also key in head-to-head leagues, where you could be leading the regular season by 200 points, but still get beat down by a hot team during the playoffs. It is vital that you keep up to date with all your information during the stretch run to maintain your lead, or make it a photo finish in your league with the current leaders.

Angus here. Kovalev has been sent home by the team. GM Bob Gainey did not pull any punches, citing Kovalev's disinterested attitude as the reason for the move. He may return to the club after the road trip, but I do not see him sticking around for long. One of the most frustrating players in [...]

A Look Ahead: Team USA in 2010

The Olympics are now less than a calendar year away, although the selection process is well underway for the participating countries. The defending Olympic champions (Sweden) are looking to repeat as gold medalists, but an influx in young Canadian, American, and Russian talent ensures that the 2010 games will be hotly contested. Last summer I wrote a piece on my ideas for a prospective Canadian lineup, and ideally I would like to cover the rest of the hockey powers at some point before February 2010. Here are my picks for the 2010 American lineup.

Halak on the Attack

Halak

Thank you, Carey Price, for finally wearing out Guy Carbonneau’s already paper-thin patience. Your month-long meltdown made last Friday’s game between Montreal and Colorado the most exciting scouting experience I’ve had as co-host of Avalanche PostGame (KCKK 1510 AM) this season. That’s because Montreal turned to Jaroslav Halak, which ended my year-long wait of wanting to see one of the league’s premier goalie prospects in some real-life action.

Things are looking bleak in Anaheim right now, but Ebbett has been impressive on the second line with Ryan and Selanne. Currently has 16 points through 27 games. Cheap, which is a huge bonus because the Ducks need to use remaining cap space on defensemen next season with Beauchemin more than likely moving on, [...]

The Michel Therrien firing countdown is over, a mere eight hours after I started it. Penguin owners rejoice, let the offense begin.  A beer-induced "easy" day for Dobber this fine Sunday afternoon... Antoine Vermette has 15 points in his last 18 games. With Patrick Sharp out of the lineup for at least the next three games (LBI), [...]

Well-Oiled Euro Scouting Fueling Edmonton

The Edmonton Oilers have always been a team to watch when it comes to Europe. From being one of the first to cash in on under-scouted gems to pioneering the tactic of stashing players in overseas leagues to cut costs, players like Jari Kurri, Esa Tikkanen, Martin Rucinsky, Miroslav Satan and David Vyborny gave the team a strong reputation throughout the 90s. While European scouting under the Lowe era started off on the wrong foot, the last two draft classes have yielded some of the most intriguing prospects overseas.
