Sam Gagner has 17 points in his last 15 contests.

The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have signed 6'3", 205-pound left wing James van Riemsdyk to a multiyear entry-level contract beginning with the 2009-10 season. JVR will get a long look in camp, but unless they move Briere I don't see him in the NHL full time next season. Man, this team is stacked.

The Blue Jackets have recalled Nikita Filatov. He may not play, as the Dispatch is implying that he is being given the experience of training with a club making a playoff push. He had two goals plus a shootout goal on Sunday for Syracuse. If he plays, expect eight minutes of ice time and one goal in his first game. Then expect six minutes of ice time and zero goals the game after that. By now, we know what to expect from the coach here.

As always – some great insight in the comments on my ramblings. I hope everybody peruses those as well. People from around the world have a more in-depth perspective in certain areas, so their insight on my insight adds great value.

Brendan Morrison has eight points in his last seven games as he settles onto his new team.

Steve Ott has 32 points in his last 35 games. That's impressive – can he continue that when Morrow returns? Can he stay healthy? Dark horse for next season in points-only leagues (in roto leagues he is too well-known to be called that).

Nashville's Cal O'Reilly has points in three straight, and last night he saw 19:50. Hopefully Trotz gives him this opportunity in the fall because he certainly deserves it. Then again, he is young and inexperienced and we're talking about Barry Trotz here.

Mike Danton has been transferred to Canadian prison and is eligible for parole. He hasn't been on the ice in five years – I just found the news interesting.

Derick Brassard has been cleared for non-contact practice. According to the Dispatch, he will not play before May 1. I have my doubts on that. If the team is down three games to two on April 25th – they'll certainly let Brassard come in to help.

The Associated Press is reporting that Kyle Quincey is out for the season. The The LA Daily News says he will have back surgery on a herniated disc.

The Ducks signed 24-year-old undrafted college prospect MacGregor Sharp to a two-year deal. He was pointless in his first game for Iowa (AHL) and he won't make the Ducks next season. How he does next year will determine the outlook for 2010-11.

The Ducks' farm team Iowa also signed one of their better prospects, two-way forward Nicholas Deschamps to play the end of the campaign. Deschamps is ranked 238 on my prospects list.

Tis the season, folks – junior players who are eliminated will come to the AHL for a sneak preak…and NCAA undrafted prospects are starting to get scooped up. The rest of the NHL is finally catching on to what the Ducks have done with these undrafted college players and they are all trying to find the next NHLer that way. You can't argue with the results though – Andy McDonald, Dustin Penner, Andrew Ebbett, Ryan Shannon – all undrafted and signed out of college by Anaheim. LA's Teddy Purcell is another example. Given that teams are only getting one or two NHLers from every draft, the success rate of signing older college players is actually quite similar.

Atlanta's farm team Chicago signed Andrew Kozek, who is ranked 156. Watch him carefully, as he has solid upside…but is lower on the list due to the certainty that he will make the show. A strong showing would go a long way towards wiping those fears. He had a rather weak season for the U. of North Dakota.

The Kings signed late bloomer Corey Elkins, a solid offensive forward who was undrafted and playing for Ohio State. He was a healthy scratch for the Kings, but we may get a sneak preview of him in the NHL soon. Will he have the success of a Bill Thomas or a McDonald?

Manchester signed rearguard Thomas Hickey to a deal to play out the end of the season. Hickey sits 171 on my list and will certainly be an NHLer within two years. However, despite some offensive talent, his role will be more defensive than you would expect, given what some of the other kids bring to LA (Johnson, Quincey, Harrold, and of course Doughty). Still, Hickey should flirt with 45 points in a few years on the second PP unit.

Here's an interesting one – the Isles' farm team Bridgeport has signed goalie Kevin Poulin. He hasn't played up to his potential as of yet, but given the severe Band-Aid Boyness of DiPietro, Poulin certainly has an opportunity to turn some heads.

Rick Rypien played 10 minutes for Vancouver after missing most of the season with sports hernia surgery. His return put Mason Raymond in the press box.
