Fantasy Hockey Prospects – June 01, 2009

Dobber Sports

2009-06-01

The top two winners of each of the three tiers in Dobber's roto leagues hang in there – I apologize. I owe you each an Ultimate Fantasy Pack, as well as some swag. I'll send details tomorrow via your email.

La version Française du Guide des Espoirs est disponible dans votre section Downloads.

The Fantasy Prospects Report is available now in your Downloads section. On June 14, you will find an updated version – complete with Bugg's Mock Draft and additional 2009 Draftee profiles. The French version will be up shortly.

Bad news for owners of a lot of Habs players in keeper leagues – Jacques Martin is the coach. Unless you're like myself, who owns zero Montreal players… except for Carey Price. I'm saying "cha-ching" and opening a celebratory beer. Can you say trap? Music to Price's ear.

The Oilers have signed Milan Kytnar to an ELC. The 20-year-old had a decent season offensively in the WHL, but it was as a 19-year-old. In the show, he won't be a top sixer, barring a head-turning season as an overager.

Brett Hull and Les Jackson are out as co-GMs. I don't know if I agree with that, based on one rather large mistake. Injuries wound up hurting the Stars as much as anything. However, I can't disagree with their decision to give Joe Nieuwendyk a shot as the GM.

Rumor is that Lightning owners Len Barrie and Oren Kouleas are not on speaking terms. I wonder how rich people get to that point? Wouldn't they just get mad at each other and then turn around and dive into their pile of money, emerging from the pile with a smile on their face and all is forgiven? Anyway, according to Steve Simmons of the Sun, this makes it difficult for Brian Burke to get any headway in trade talks for that No. 2 pick.

I can see Burke swinging a deal to get the No.2 pick and then bribing the Islanders with a second rounder so that they take Victor Hedman. Then JT would be a Leaf.

New Jersey prospect Petr Vrana has signed to play in the Czech League next season. He has slipped from 70 on my Prospects List to 140 for the purposes of the Prospects Report.

Spector gives an interesting rumor that Saku Koivu may be interested in signing in Minnesota.

I noticed some Leaf fans in the forum looking forward to the big Prospects Report because they want to look at the TML prospects. Since you have to wait until 4pm, here is a teaser: The Leaf prospects we profile are Jiri Tlusty, Nikolai Kulemin, Tyler Bozak, Anton Stralman, Jeremy Williams, Viktor Stalberg, Chris DiDomenico, Mikhail Stefanovich, Jimmy Hayes and Justin Pogge.

Don Cherry last night, in case you missed it:

Keeping Karlsson Short Shifts – The Wilkes-Jarry Penguins

Elizabeth and Lewis are back to take listeners through a host of power play changes that are giving managers the opportunity to get exposure to great players off the waiver wire, including Philly, Jersey, and Tampa talk. They also cover Jarry’s AHL demotion, Cooley’s ascension to the top-line and powerplay, and injuries to Tavares and Hintz. The duo wrap up with some hot and cold streak deep dives, including discussion of the Red Wings crazy powerplay success in the last ten games, whether Erik Gustafsson is rosterable or an overperforming illusion, Fantilli’s continued success, Merilainen as Hamburglar 2.0, and whether Schenn’s success and Neighbours’ lack thereof are likely to continue.
