A deal rumored for some time now, the Thrashers re-signed Anssi Salmela to a multi-year extension. I'm unsure if it's a two-way or one-way deal, but Don Waddell indicated that he would be part of their seven-defenseman group, so he won't start the year in the AHL. He is a dark horse candidate for 40 points.
Kris Draper saw the least ice time on the Wings in his return to the lineup – just 8:10. Jiri Hudler's ice time has been cut to 11:21. Doesn't sound like they'd be interested in matching any big offer sheets for Hudler after July 1 if he still can't be trusted to play even third-line minutes after three years in the league.
This just in – Breaking News – David Krejci's surgery was successful! I know a lot of you had your fingers crossed…
The Rangers have signed minor-league goaltender Matt Zaba to an extension. Zaba had a tremendous AHL season and could be the backup next season if the Rangers don't re-sign Valiquette.
I love this beautiful goal by Tyler "fruit bat" Kennedy. It takes me back to the days of NHL94 when the one-timer was introduced. My buddy and I got so good at it, that we would switch to goalie control and stop the one-timer. We got so good at THAT, that we would psyche each other out by setting up for a one timer…but not actually doing it and instead make the third pass and the goalie would be out to lunch. Just like this clip:

This clip goes out to my buddy Dan Irvine, and while I'm at it I'll plug his restaurant. Those of you in London, Ontario – you haven't eaten until you've tried the food at TRU restaurant on the corner of King and Rideout. To this day, I still can't find a better steak anywhere. Whenever I'm in London, which is every three or four months, I go there.
