Marleau is going nowhere – August 19, 2009

The Hurricanes have signed Stephane Yelle to a one-year deal worth just over half a mill. This puts in doubt the chances of Boychuk cracking the roster.

The fact that Patrick Marleau has been stripped of his captaincy tells me that he will remain with San Jose. Why make a big thing of it if they were going to trade him? He stays.

The Bertuzzi signing puts the Wings up against the cap ceiling. That can be eased by putting Andreas Lilja on injured reserve. This is assuming Abdelkader is in Grand Rapids. This will make a trade during the season unlikely – but the Wings rarely make moves during the campaign anyway.

Here is a nice article on the recovery of Casey Borer, who broke his neck when  the Albany bus flipped off the turnpike back in February. He’s skating again, but still no contact. Yes, the article is two weeks old – but I missed it until now.

The Dispatch is reporting that Hitchcock says that Kris Russell is still not ready for the first power play just yet, and that either Brassard or Voracek will man the point along with Tyutin. It’s a slow learning process, but Russell had 3:18/game on the PP last  year and he’s going to up that to 3:40 or so this year. That’s good enough for me at this stage.

Finally, the pair touch on Voronkov and PLD’s hot streaks, and discuss John Carlson’s rollercoaster in light of Chychrun’s production.
