Jason…Allison? August 29, 2009

Fantasy Guide here.
James Mirtle is tweeting that Matt Lashoff has signed a two-year deal with the bolts today. No word on one-way, or two-way. I am also hearing that prospect Radek Smolenak has been waived by his KHL team. That is from Erik Erlendsson of the Tribune
Shocking news – the Leafs have invited Jason Allison to training camp. The 34-year-old has not played since 2006. Slow as mollasses, he had two skills that were among the best – the ability to protect the puck and the vision/foresight to make the right play. That’s how he was able to have seasons of 95 and 85 points. Being “rusty” means two things – you lose a step in your skating and you lose a second off your timing. Fortunately for Allison, he doesn’t have a step that he can lose. So he’ll be okay there. But the timing will be key, as that had been part of his survival. Not worth a fantasy consideration unless your bench carries 20 reserve/ inactive players and there are 12 teams in your league.
For those who missed the big announcement yesterday, Jason Arbuthnot in our Frozen Pool section (just click “Fantasy Tools” in the Nav on the left or in the tab up top). He has put together a FANTASY MANAGER tool in which you enter in the roster of your team and it immediately spits out all their stats – including salary. What’s more is that it KEEPS your team so you can check in another day, add/subtract players and check it out again. Truly fantastic. You can find it HERE.
Patrick Kane pled guilty to disorderly conduct and was ordered to apologize to the cab driver. He also had to pay legal fees of, as Puck Daddy put it, 12,500 cents for the incident that caused oh so much hoopla.
As expected, Frankie Kaberle has signed to play in the Czech League.
Sorry, still digesting the Allison news. Not what I expected to wake up to. Who next – Peter Forsberg? Oh wait, I hear now that Forsberg will give the NHL one more try. His foot apparently feels better finally. If so, best you could hope for is 60 games and 55 points.
