Other Sabres cut include Byron and Brennan. No big names yet. Still 33 in camp.

Leafs cut Andre Deveaux, Alex Foster, Ryan Hamilton and Ben Ondrus.

Tyler Ennis among Sabres cuts. More in an hour or so.

Caps have cut John Carlson. They have also cut Francois Bouchard and four others. Osala and Perreault still there.

The Sens have cut Jared Cowan. Down to 27 players now.

The Rangers have cut Parenteau, leaving them with 14 forwards – including the injured Sean Avery. So they will probably carry Grachev, at least to start the season.

The Kings cut Drew Bagnall, Gabe Gauthier, Brandon Segal and John Zeiler. They are down to 31 players – 18 forwards include Schenn, Lewis and Cliche; 11 defensemen including Martinez and Hickey. Bernier is also still there.

The Flyers cut four more, including Kolanos and Ross. Still with the team – JVR and Maroon

Petr Kalus was among today’s MIN cuts.

Kyle Greentree among today’s CGY cuts. Also Kris Chucko. Still among the 32 who remain – THEO FLEURY!

Chicago has cut Kyle Beach, Bryan Bickell and several others.

Chicago’s Adam Burish will undergo ACL surgery. He will be out for six months.

Drayson Bowman has been cut. Also cut by the ‘Canes are Bryan Rodney and Brett Carson. I would say that McBain has made the team.

Cody Franson has been off the ice since Thursday. He took some blows to the head during a fight. This may have influenced the decision to sign Bouillon.

Nate Gerbe played with his usual winger, Tim Kennedy, as well as either Tomas Vanek or Clarke MacArthur. He was still held pointless. He needs to start putting the biscuit in the basket – the Sabres don’t need a 5-5 role player. I have Gerbe in one of my keepers, so it would be nice to see him succeed. Smaller players take longer to hit their potential though.

As expected, Mike Knuble has been playing with Ovechkin and Backstrom.

Drayson Bowman and Zach Boychuk were pointless and a combined minus-3 last night.

Sergei Samsonov played with Rod Brind’Amour and Scott Walker last night.

Jamie McBain logged nearly 23 minutes last night, versus Brian Rodney’s 18. McBain also saw time on the PK, which bodes well for his chances.

Kovalchuk played with Antropov and Little on the top line. He also played with Reasoner and Fritsche on the checking line. Fritsche is there on a tryout.

Kozlov played with Peverley and White. These are how I had the lines in the Guide.

Anisimov and Grachev had a new linemate last night – Ryan Callahan. The troika managed a goal. With Sean Avery injured (lower body), Grachev could be kept around at least for a nine-game stint. Avery is day to day.

Some line juggling in Pittsburgh: for the first time, all of Crosby, Malkin, Caputi and Tangradi were in the same game. But instead of line combos already established, coach Bylsma went with Tangradi and Kunitz on Malkin’s line; and Caputi and Guerin on Crosby’s line. It didn’t work, as the the kids were shut out. This is the time to experiment though.

Benn Ferriero had two points last night and is making a case to crack the Sharks. If he makes the team he could be a 30-point, 90 PIM player this year.

Mikael Backlund played just eight minutes for the Flames. He was pointless and a minus-1. The writing could be on the wall – expect a season in the AHL.

Ottawa forward Jesse Winchester suffered a knee injury. It will take him out of the lineup until late October, clearing up some room up front for the team.
