Angus here – last tidbit of the night: TB top line is Lecavalier centering Tanguay and St. Louis. I figured the Bolts would try this eventually – they need Vinny going more than they need Stamkos going, and Marty drives that team.
Tired of streaky players and want consistency for your fantasy squad? Be sure to check out FrozenPool’s Report Generator to find out who is the most consistent scoring players in the NHL. A seldom tracked statistic! Check out a defenceman example here.
Jackets have re-signed Kris Russell to a three-year extension!
Matt Moulson is on pace for 98 points so far this season! He has three goals and three assists through five games for the winless Islanders, as he is making the most of the opportunity given to him to start the season off. He has played primarily with Tavares and Okposo at even-strength, and that should help him get to 40 or 45 points if he plays the majority of the season in the NHL.
Brian McGrattan had a Gordie Howe Hattrick last night against Vancouver! Nice to see as I think he has battled some off-ice issues recently.

James van Riemsdyk had an assist in his return to the lineup last night for the Flyers. He is showing his playmaking skills so far, with four assists in four games. He probably won’t get enough ice time to hit 50 or 60 points this season, but if there is an injury, you never know. He is of the best prospects to own in a keeper league, for sure.
David Jones is off to a great start for the Avalanche. He really impressed me back in 2007-08 when I saw him play for the first time. He is big, fast, and very solid both offensively and defensively. Not a flashy player, but I can definitely see him developing into a fantastic complementary winger for the Stastny/Duchene duo down the middle.
The Coyotes have recalled Kevin Porter from San Antonio. I guess Taylor Pyatt isn’t quite ready to return yet. Porter will be a top-six forward for the Coyotes either by the end of this season or to begin 2010-11.
The Predators have called up Cody Franson. Many speculated that this meant Kevin Klein would be scratched, as he has been very pedestrian to start the season off. However, Dan Hamhuis is nursing a upper-body injury and will miss the game tonight against Washington. Franson makes a terrific first pass and will get lots of power play time right off the hop.
Marian Hossa skated for the first time since the playoffs yesterday. He should make his return in about five or six weeks, but he could be back a bit sooner. Chicago is a potent offensive club without Hossa… with him their lineup just gets ridiculous.
Chicago has claimed Andrew Ebbett off of the waiver wire. I wonder where he slots in?
Iginla and Jokinen have combined for only three of the 30 goals Calgary has scored. They have been getting contributions from everyone. Players like Glencross, Moss, and Bourque may not be that enticing from a fantasy-perspective, but they are perfect depth scorers.
Nikita Filatov is going to be a healthy scratch for the second straight game tonight. Hitchcock is paid to win and not to help poolies, but that doesn’t make this one any easier to swallow for Filatov owners.
Forgot to mention this last night – Scott Clemmensen looked great last night for the Panthers. Vokoun is incredibly inconsistent so he may get more starts than many originally expected out of him this season.
The Kings have re-called Oscar Moller. They made the right move sending him down, as he needs to get bigger and stronger before becomming an impact NHL player. He won’t stick around but at least he is playing well enough to earn the call-up (five points in five games so far with Manchester).
Dustin Penner sure loves playing for Pat Quinn. The big man was simply dominant against the Wild, and he potted two goals to boot.
Speaking of Oilers flourishing under Quinn, how about Gilbert Brule? Two more goals (in only 13 minutes of ice-time) for the former Vancouver Giant star. Brule is playing with a lot of speed and the same edge he had during junior hockey, something he hadn’t done in the NHL up to this point. Very encouraging to see.
Roberto Luongo had another awful night (statistically) between the pipes for the Canucks. He was hung out to dry on a few of the goals, but he simply needs to be better. Don’t panic or even think about trading him away, though. Notoriously slow starter. I remember all of the panic around his slow start on the forums last season as well.
Rich Peverley is showing he can score wherever he is put in the lineup. The 3-1 Thrashers came back against New Jersey, thanks in large part to Peverley’s two goals. He isn’t playing even-strength with Kovalchuk any more, but he still is finding the back of the net. Great to see, as many AHL stars don’t seize their opportunities in the NHL. He now has four goals in four games, and is right at a point-per during his career as a Thrasher.
