Dobber's article today on Puck Daddy   Ryan Callahan somehow snuck back in to the Rangers lineup! Just noticed him out there on the ice. I guess he didn't want to miss a game with whatever the injury was.   Anton Stralman is IN tonight against the Sharks (as is Derek Dorsett).   Tampa Bay [...]

Rich Peverley

This week I will be taking a quick look at two players on each team. The first will be a player whose value is on a sharp rise while his counterpart will be a player whose value is resembling Nortel in 2001. Bear in mind that this "value" shift is based on the first week of the season, which is a very small sample to work with. However, I believe it is never too early to start making note of possible trends, and by knowing first, you can act first.

Bieksa is IN tonight.   Kevin Bieksa is probably going to miss the Canuck game tonight due to the birth of his second child. If he does miss the game, look for Aaron Rome (who was very impressive during the pre-season) to draw in. This bumps Edler or Ehrhoff up to the top PP unit. [...]

The start of the 2009-2010 NHL season is well and truly underway. There were certainly plenty of surprises, as well as plenty of hair-pulling mistakes. The main thing that you need to keep reminding yourself is that it’s only six days into the new season, and not to panic too much, there’s still plenty of time left in the season, before you call a fire-sale. Similar to last season I’ll provide you with weekly updates, so that you have access to the latest news that’s been happening from the Western Conference front.

Statement from Office Pools: Our friends over at Office Pools have asked me to publish their statement for them. You can read it here.   The Habs have signed M.A. Bergeron to a one-year contract. High risk/high reward here, but definitely worth a flyer. He will play in the AHL for now as he gets [...]

Early Season Goaltending Controversies

Vesa Toskala

It seems now more than ever there are multiple goaltending controversies around the league. With more teams carrying two capable (and often equally skilled) netminders instead of the more typical starter and backup,  unwanted frustration has been placed upon us poolies. With goalies at such a premium in basically every fantasy hockey format, it is essential to have at least two capable starters. Chances are you were rewarded if you took a late round flier on Pekka Rinne or Jonas Hiller last year. How will the goalie controversies facing several NHL clubs play out in 2009-10? Who will win out?

Quick

In just three frenzied days of action, five goalies have walked away with two-game winning streaks, including Craig Anderson, Miikka Kiprusoff, Ray Emery, Marc-Andre Fleury and Carey Price. And unless you watched all 23 games so far, you probably resorted to box scores and recaps to see how your goalies fared. But since they don’t tell the whole story on a goalie’s performance, you might be wondering where to go from here.

Those of you who use officepools - they are reverting to their old site. Their new system is not working - too much stuttering and stopping and errors and glitches. They will be moving to their old format shortly.   Tough break for the Sharks - Joe Pavelski is out for two weeks with a [...]

Buy the fantasy guide here!   Per Puck-rakers, Anton Stralman WON'T play tomorrow for the Blue Jackets.   Sunday evening... some news coming in now.   Erik Cole is out 4-6 weeks with a lower leg stress fracture. Talk about bad luck, Cole seems to be cursed. This means more offensive ice time for Ruutu, [...]
