Ken Hitchcock has been FIRED. This is from Jeff Marek’s Twitter. Jackets owners rejoice! I don’t have to break this one down for you – it’s a GOOD THING if you own Jackets players. ‘Nuff Said.

Ranger line combos last night: Jokinen with Gabby and Prospal; Dubinsky with Callahan and Avery; Anisimov with Christensen and Prust; Boyle with Drury and Voros.

DET line combos with Holmstrom back in the lineup: Datsyuk, Zetts and Bertuzzi; Filppula, Cleary and Holmstrom; Miller, Williams and Maltby

That leaves Johan Franzen as the only injured Red Wing left. Franzen will get in three games before the Olympic break.

Because Mark Popovic returned to the lineup, Anssi Salmela was back to being a healthy scratch last night.

Brian McCabe is mired in a 10-game pointless drought.

Nik Bergfors is pointless in 13.

TJ Galiardi had four assists last night, giving him eight points in eight games. The 21-year-old is ranked 53 on my prospects list and has upside as a second-liner in the low 70s. More likely he’ll be a low 60s player though.

TJ Hensick has 38 points in 29 AHL contests, already leading Lake Erie in scoring despite playing barely more than half the games. The Avs won’t want to lose him via re-entry waivers, so we won’t see him until the fall barring an emergency call-up. but he will get another chance in the fall to make his mark in the NHL. He turned 25 in December.

Alexei Ponikarovsky has 11 points in his last eight games, almost putting back on track for 60 this year.

Back in November, we had a poll asking you to pick who will finish with more points – Lecavalier or Stamkos and 52.7% of you said Lecavalier. At the time, the gap was 16 points to 11 for Stammer. Well, he’s up to 53 points now but Stamkos is still going strong at 57 points. Can he hold him off?

Antoine Vermette has 13 in his last 15.

Andy McDonald is on a seven game point streak. Unfortunately he has just one point in each of them. He has 17 in his last 20 though, which is a 68-point pace.

I’m going to assume that because J.S. Giguere made his Leaf debut with a shutout, that he will get the next start. I will also assume that he has his confidence back, is feeling good, and would have to really blow it not get another start after that one. The Leafs will be riding the adrenalin for awhile.

As expected, Bozak lined up with Kessel. That will be undisputed really, until Grabovski returns and even then he would have to really falter to lose the job. Ponikarovsky was on the other wing.

I don’t know if you caught this, but not only did Phoenix and Nashville take a scoreless tie to a shootout, but it went 10 rounds! Phoenix finally won. Funny story – not funny “ha ha” but funny punch me in the face: before the game started, I remember hoping for a 6-5 Nashville win, to kickstart my team in my one league. I have five NSH guys and three PHO guys. D’oh! On the plus side, I have Bryzgalov in two leagues.

Josh Harding aggravated his groin and as a result Wade Dubielewicz got his first start of the season. Backstrom is currently sick. It’s been nearly three years since a goalie who was not Backstrom or Harding started for the Wild. He allowed four goals on just 18 shots, so I’m sure they’ll get him out of there as soon as humanly possible.

Steve Ott had 14 minutes in penalties and still managed to play 18 minutes.

Sergei Kostitsyn and Benoit Pouliot looked very good playing with Plekanec last night, notching two points each. With Cammy and AK out, these two will get lots of ice time and opportunity. A must own in most roto leagues.

The Bruins have scored nine goals in their last seven games and are 0-6-2 in their last eight. They are still only two points out of a playoff spot, but it’s a dogfight. Looking at it from a glass half-empty standpoint, they are ranked 24th in the NHL. That’s 24th. Two. Four.

Joe Corvo should return to the Canes’ lineup Wednesday, according to Chip Alexander of Canes Now. He has missed the last two months with that leg laceration.

Erik Cole is targeting Friday for a return. I’m not sure why you would care about that. He hasn’t been the same since his big injury several years ago.

The Tennessean is reporting that there is a good chance that Cal O’Reilly will remain with the big club for the rest of the season.

Olli Jokinen was a minus-2 in his Rangers debut last night. The team only gave up two goals, so you can’t get worse than that. He played 20 minutes.

Brandon Prust had 19 minutes in penalties in his NYR debut. Avery and Voros were also in the lineup. Brashear was scratched.

Tortorella experimented with five forwards on the power play. Del Zotto might be in tough to get some points over the near future.

The Habs are in the thick of the playoff race and given that Halak stole one for them last night stopping 45 of 47 shots, he’ll probably keep starting.

DobberHockey Night in Toronto! Only 10 tickets are left! I’ll have more info on this later in the week, but here is the lowdown: $35 puts you in a luxury suite at the Marlies game on March 21 (Sunday). I will be in that suite with you, as well as several of the writers here at DobberHockey (I need official confirmation, but the early word is that Brent Lemon, Russ Miller and Steve “Notch” Johnson will be there). The game will be on CBC. Food is included. Bottom line – you talk fantasy hockey with the experts over beer and wings. Who doesn’t like that? Again – only 16 tickets were available. But already five have sold and it’s only been up for a few hours! First come first serve!

I will also be selling tickets to regular seats at the game for charity. Details on that still need to ironed out, but the goal is to put 50 kids into seats at that game.

The DobberHockey Olympics Pool is FREE to join and it’s simple – you just pick one player from each box. Sound complicated? Call my one-year-old daughter and she’ll walk you through it. And you could win prizes. Already 1350+ have signed up. Prizes include an autographed Steve Yzerman jersey, an autographed Jaromir Jagr jersey, and an autographed Eric Staal picture for the funniest team name. Not bad for something that is FREE. But you don’t want to join and lose to me anyway, I’m sure.
