ROTO RANKING | SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
1 | Alex Ovechkin, LW | 1 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 22 | 16 | 23 | 39 | 24 | 18 | 12 | 113
Ovechkin is on pace for a career high 121 points and after a brief stay at number
two has re-established himself as the best player in fantasy hockey.
Semin and Backstrom have drafted their way to the top 12 of this list.
The two combined for only 6 points in the 5 games he missed in early November.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
2 | Ryan Miller, G | 93 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | |||
GP | W | L | T | GAA | SV% | SO | |||
Since Jan 1 | 18 | 9 | 6 | 4 | 2.4 | 0.93 | 1
Miller has slumped heading into the Olympics with a 3-5-3 record and a
pedestrian .908 SV%. As a Canadian, this would usually make me happy if
Brodeur and Luongo weren’t channeling the spirit of Darren Puppa.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
3 | Martin Brodeur, G | 41 | 22 | 8 | 4 | 3
GP | W | L | T | GAA | SV% | SO | |||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 9 | 10 | 2 | 2.6 | 0.9 | 3
Note to Steve Yzerman. Martin Brodeur is not the best goaltender in Canada.
The gold medal is not won on previous accomplishments. Brodeur is approaching
38 years old, and although he is still producing big numbers in team based
categories, his SV% is once again mediocre. Facing the 3rd least shots in the NHL
he has a .915 SV%, good for 16th among NHL starters.
Giant Elephant in the room, Scott Clemmensen’s career regression.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
4 | Nicklas Backstrom, C | 17 | 37 | 41 | 31 | 4
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 22 | 11 | 19 | 30 | 18 | 26 | 14 | 61
I am going to refer to the Caps as the Fab 4. Alexander Ovechkin represents
John Lennon, Mike Green is Paul McCartney and Nicklas Backstrom is George
Harrison. If so then who is Alexander Semin? I am going to go with Pete Best
because Jose Theodore is definitely Ringo!
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
5 | Dany Heatley, LW | 25 | 9 | 10 | 9 | 5
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 9 | 12 | 21 | 6 | 16 | 7 | 77
Addition by subtraction? Ottawa doesn’t seem to miss Mr. Selfish.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
6 | Ilya Bryzgalov, G | • | 12 | 3 | 13 | 6
GP | W | L | T | GAA | SV% | SO | |||
Since Jan 1 | 18 | 10 | 7 | 0 | 2.9 | 0.91 | 1
Bryzgalov has been a fantasy surprise in 2010, but looking back I think his 2008
season was more impressive. His numbers were very similar to his current
campaign, but were registered behind the worst defensive coach in hockey.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
7 | Mike Green, D | 13 | 28 | 14 | 16 | 7
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 9 | 12 | 21 | 6 | 16 | 7 | 77
You know your country is deep in offense when they leave the best offensive
defenseman in the NHL off their Olympic roster. The 31 goals will not be
duplicated, but a 90 pt season is not out of the question in 2010.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
8 | Craig Anderson, G | • | 13 | 31 | 35 | 8
GP | W | L | T | GAA | SV% | SO | |||
Since Jan 1 | 18 | 12 | 6 | 0 | 1.9 | 0.94 | 3
I am now drinking the Kool-Aid Mr. Anderson.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
9 | Marian Gaborik, RW | 59 | 11 | 16 | 15 | 9
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 20 | 9 | 9 | 18 | 4 | 19 | 3 | 17
How long can Mr. Glass remain healthy? Right now Gaborik is like the transvestite
in the Crying game. He is showing you just enough to get you to invest before
revealing his giant composite stick.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
10 | Sidney Crosby, C | 3 | 4 | 4 | 3 | 10
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 19 | 11 | 30 | -3 | 10 | 9 | 82
Goal scoring. Check. Assists. Check. SOG. Check. +/- and PIMS nope.
Ultimately Crosby’s rankng is hurt more because of his position than anything
else, the average value replacement for a center is much higher because of
an abundance of quality pivots in the NHL.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
11 | Tomas Vokoun, G | • | • | 79 | 25 | 11
GP | W | L | T | GAA | SV% | SO | |||
Since Jan 1 | 20 | 8 | 9 | 3 | 1.8 | 0.95 | 4
How fitting is it that with Vokoun’s strong 2010 season, that Microsoft Word’s
spell check mistakes his name for Vacuum? Almost as fitting as Emery coming
up as Ebony and Chris Osgood coming up as Shit.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
12 | Alexander Semin, LW | 8 | 14 | 30 | 21 | 12
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 22 | 16 | 17 | 33 | 14 | 26 | 9 | 89
I have not witnessed a Semin explosion of this magnitude since North Pole #9.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
13 | Evgeni Malkin, C | 2 | 43 | 5 | 5 | 13
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 20 | 8 | 19 | 27 | -11 | 28 | 9 | 71
Mr. Ugly has been fairly solid over the last month. A return to last seasons
point production would put more emphasis on his increased PIMS and SOG, until
then he will remain at the bottom of the Big 3.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
14 | Evgeni Nabokov, G | 79 | 3 | 11 | 8 | 14
GP | W | L | T | GAA | SV% | SO | |||
Since Jan 1 | 18 | 12 | 4 | 2 | 2.2 | 0.93 | 0
With Nabokov having a career year in a contract year, the question is, will the
Sharks bite? If they don’t Nabokov’s keeper league owners my be holding onto
a severely declining asset.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
15 | Zach Parise, LW | 36 | 7 | 9 | 12 | 15
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 11 | 8 | 19 | 3 | 12 | 4 | 89
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
16 | Ilya Kovalchuk, LW | 21 | • | 21 | 11 | 16
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 22 | 9 | 12 | 21 | 1 | 8 | 5 | 94
After pulling the trigger on a Kovalchuk deal in my keeper pool, I was horrified
to see Kovalchuk dealt to the Devils. It is the equivalent to the excitement of
dating a supermodel only to find out that she was previously married to Dirk
Diggler. Considering I already owned Zach Parise, this deal likely wiped out my
late season push. | |||||||||
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
17 | Corey Perry, RW | 5 | 17 | 6 | 6 | 17
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 22 | 6 | 12 | 18 | 1 | 45 | 3 | 67
Even though he trails Mr. Glass in 2010, he is still the best RW in fantasy hockey.
If somebody offered you Perry for Gaborik straight up in a ANY default roto league
you make the trade immediately.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
18 | Patrick Marleau, C | • | 16 | 25 | 22 | 18
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 13 | 10 | 23 | 7 | 8 | 8 | 76
I’ve got nothing. Marleau had a good January? His name sounds like Merlot? Nothing.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
19 | Miikka Kiprusoff, G | 99 | • | 7 | 7 | 19

Kipper’s career numbers in Calgary without a Sutter behind the bench.
226 GP .626 Winning %, 2.66 GAA, .908 SV%, 13 SO
Just sayin. | |||||||||
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
20 | Steven Stamkos, C | • | 29 | 43 | 48 | 20
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 22 | 14 | 19 | 33 | 9 | 8 | 14 | 81
You think Yzerman would like a mulligan on this one? Apparently not, seeing as
Yzerman opted to use Carter as his alternate for Getzlaf. Since the Olympic roster
was announced, Stamkos has produced 14G and 19A in 21 games. I thought with
Yzerman’s personal experience of being ignored in 1984 and Crosby’s ridiculous
omission in 2006 that Stamkos would be in Vancouver.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
21 | Henrik Sedin, C | 35 | 56 | 65 | 37 | 21
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 6 | 21 | 27 | 14 | 12 | 6 | 37
Players like Henrik Sedin make me fear the Swedish Olympic team far more than the
Russians. The Swedes are stacked with two-way forwards that can score and
commit to a system and are supported by the second best defensive unit in the
Olympics. Why are they rarely mentioned as the defending champion?
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
22 | Patrick Kane, RW | 30 | 48 | 52 | 18 | 22
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 8 | 14 | 22 | 5 | 4 | 8 | 69
Can somebody get this kid a raise? First he slaps a cabbie over 20 cents, now he is
raiding the local Denny’s for puck bunnies? After viewing Patrick Kane’s latest
tabloid fodder, I was shocked to find the pictures of the women in the limo were
taken in Vancouver, I was sure that he picked them up in Amherst or Cheektowaga.
They looked like Evgeni Malkin and Pascal Leclaire in drag.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
23 | Alex Burrows, LW | 38 | 41 | 29 | 14 | 23
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 19 | 16 | 8 | 24 | 15 | 36 | 2 | 51
The beginning of Burrows explosion coincided with me dropping him to the waiver wire.
Proving once again, that I know nothing.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
24 | Chris Pronger, D | 40 | 57 | 48 | 58 | 24
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 20 | 3 | 15 | 18 | 11 | 14 | 9 | 43
Since Jan 1st, the dirtiest player in the NHL has been putting up Mike Green numbers.
In 20 games he has 3G and 15A, +11, 14 PIMs, 9PP and 43 SOG. Is there a better
all around defenseman in the NHL?
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
25 | Anze Kopitar, C | • | 5 | 18 | 56 | 25
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 20 | 12 | 13 | 25 | 8 | 4 | 11 | 72
After taking a quarter of the season off, Kopitar returned with a vengeance with the
turn of the new year. After producing only 9 points in the 2nd quarter, Kopitar regained
his early season form with 25 points in the 3rd. He is only 22, so inconsistency is to be
expected. The Kings are going to be scary good, soon.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
26 | Jarome Iginla, RW | 14 | 47 | 12 | 24 | 26
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 22 | 7 | 12 | 19 | 5 | 11 | 5 | 74
If anybody thinks Matt Stajan is the answer, the question has to be
“What is the name of the next shitty center they will stick beside Jarome Iginla?”
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
27 | Rick Nash, LW | 19 | 19 | 22 | 28 | 27
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 9 | 11 | 20 | 4 | 20 | 8 | 50
Two steps forward, two steps back. Will the end of the Hitchcock era finally unleash
the offensive potential? Early returns suggest yes, but Nash is like the show Lost,
everytime an old question is answered, a new one emerges.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
28 | Bobby Ryan, RW | 43 | 44 | 38 | 26 | 28
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 22 | 9 | 6 | 15 | 0 | 37 | 5 | 62
At one point, it looked like Bobby Ryan was a bust at number two behind Crosby,
but if you were to redraft today he may still be drafted at number two.
2005 was a fairly deep draft, as good as the Hawks are right now, it makes you wonder
where they would be if they hadn’t drafted Skille at 7.
Based on performance to date + potential shown I would have to go with a top 10 of:
1. Crosby 2. Kopitar 3. Price 4. Ryan 5. Stastny
6. Rask 7. Neal 8. Letang 9. Staal 10. Vlasic
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
29 | Roberto Luongo, G | 9 | • | 36 | 20 | 29
GP | W | L | T | GAA | SV% | SO | |||
Since Jan 1 | 18 | 11 | 5 | 1 | 2.5 | 0.92 | 2
I am really getting tired of the media continually mentioning that Roberto Luongo
has never come up big in big games because of Game 7 last season. Nothing like
ignoring his career playoff stats of a 2.08 GAA and .930 SV% as well as his 37
save performance against the Czech’s in the 2004 World Cup semi-final.
He is the best goaltender in Canada, the 2nd best isn’t even on the Olympic team.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
30 | Duncan Keith, D | • | • | 83 | 59 | 30
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 5 | 13 | 18 | 13 | 12 | 4 | 68
Now that is called making the leap.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
31 | Mike Richards, C | 16 | 18 | 13 | 17 | 31
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 8 | 5 | 13 | -9 | 12 | 9 | 60
Some guys were born to wear the Flyers logo. By that I mean if you are a dirty player
you should end up in Philly. Just honouring the age old tradition of applying lazy labels.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
32 | Drew Doughty, D | • | • | • | • | 32
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 20 | 2 | 16 | 18 | 11 | 16 | 9 | 45
Normally when Pierre McGuire provides his daily does of hyperbole my eyes glaze
over, but after watching Doughty for two seasons the description of Drew Doughty
as a hybrid of Ray Bourque and Denis Potvin is as accurate as describing McGuire’s
head as a hybrid of a penis and a bullhorn.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
33 | Martin St. Louis, RW | • | 68 | 45 | 54 | 33
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 14 | 13 | 27 | 6 | 4 | 8 | 60
Sergei Puckisin continues to produce and in my pool is continually underrated. Age
discrimination continues to exist in my pool as during the offseason a Kovalchuk deal
was put together with David Krejci and draft picks as a centerpiece. When I couldn’t
protect St. Louis and shopped him around, the best offer I got was a 5th round pick.
I understand valueing youth in a keeper league, but that is absurd.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
34 | Eric Staal, C | 46 | • | 50 | 41 | 34
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 19 | 12 | 11 | 23 | 7 | 4 | 11 | 69
When all is said and done, I think the Getzlaf, Perry, Staal line will emerge as the
difference maker in Vancouver. I love their combination of size and skill and don’t
know how any defense can handle them down low. That being said, it would be great
to see Babcock throw together a line of Crosby, Staal and Nash. You know Gord Miller
is dying to say “this line of Crosby, Staal and Nash is Young”.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
35 | Joe Thornton, C | • | 62 | 80 | 71 | 35
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 5 | 15 | 20 | 6 | 26 | 5 | 31
I recently read Hockeynomics and they had a stat called goals created. The reasoning
being a goal is more important than an assist, therefore should be weighted as such.
My question. During 2006, are we to assume that Jonathan Cheechoo was the more
valuable player because 56 goals are more important than Thornton’s 72 assists?
I guess it is just a coincidence that Brett Hull’s three highest goal totals just happened
to coincide with Adam Oates three year tenure with the Blues and that Neely’s 50 goals
in 49 games came with Oates as his center. I am calling bullshit on that stat.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
36 | Ryan Kesler, C | • | 38 | 32 | 32 | 36
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 20 | 6 | 14 | 20 | 3 | 19 | 6 | 47
So much for the notion that Kesler’s second half leap was due to the arrival of
Mats Sundin. | |||||||||
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
37 | Dan Boyle, D | 54 | 26 | 33 | 46 | 37
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 15 | 3 | 10 | 13 | 1 | 20 | 6 | 34
I am a hockey jersey whore, but one thing I will not do is personalize a jersey with
my own name on it. Until Dan Boyle created the loophole for me to break my own
rule. Coming soon to my closet. A Team Canada jersey with #22 on it.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
38 | Tomas Plekanec, C | • | 70 | 81 | 57 | 38
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 20 | 7 | 7 | 14 | -4 | 14 | 6 | 71
39 | Jeff Carter, C | 10 | 27 | 26 | 27 | 39

Since Jan 1 | 21 | 13 | 7 | 20 | 9 | 4 | 7 | 85
If the trade Carey Price talk isn’t proof enough, there is further evidence that most
Montreal Canadiens fans are drunk. In late December a Carter for Plekanec deal
was proposed and it was overwhelmingly rejected by Hab fans on the majority of
messageboards. Since Christmas, Carter has 15 goals and Plekanec only 17 points.
The beauty of the fanbase, they will roast Gainey in 6 months for NOT making
this deal. | |||||||||
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
40 | Vincent Lecavalier, C | 22 | 51 | 27 | 23 | 40

Since Jan 1 | 21 | 6 | 12 | 18 | -5 | 10 | 6 | 66
Carey Price and Tomas Plekanec for Lecavalier and his remaining $75M contract
and Len Barrie turned it down? Wow. Surprising that he in no longer an owner.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
41 | Ryan Getzlaf, C | 4 | 88 | 46 | 53 | 41
GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 18 | 7 | 13 | 20 | 2 | 29 | 6 | 44
Lost in all the talk of Ryan Getzlaf’s recovery from an ankle was the fact that
he enters the Olympics on a tear. In his last 6 games Getzlaf had 4G, 8A and
was +6. | |||||||||
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
42 | Christian Ehrhoff, D | • | • | 88 | 89 | 42

GP | G | A | P | +/- | PIM | PPP | SOG | ||
Since Jan 1 | 21 | 2 | 7 | 9 | -3 | 20 | 1 | 67
I am going to blame Tim Thomas for Chara’s decline. He got all the credit when the
Boston D played great, it is only fair to blame him when they struggle.
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
44 | Jonathan Toews, C | 20 | • | • | 72 | 44

I traded him in my keeper league. Two years from now I will regret it, correct that,
I already do. | |||||||||
SEP | OCT | NOV | DEC | JAN | FEB | MAR | APR
45 | Patrick Sharp, C | 80 | 25 | 37 | 34 | 45
