Breaking news: Completely unexpected – but Chicago sportswriter Chris Kuc is reporting that Brian Campbell is practicing for the Blackhawks. Coach Joel Quenneville hopes he can return at some point in the FIRST round. Move him up your lists and assume that he will be back for Game 5. This late news could make him a steal in the last round of your playoff pool

Caps players sure love to make things interesting. Jose Theodore took an Ovechkin shot off his arm and had to leave practice with a “stinger”. He is supposed to be their starter, but you have to wonder if they go with Semyon Varlamov, who can move his arms just fine without any pain (something that I’m sure Theodore will have to deal with thanks to that bruise).

Washington writer Corey Masisak quotes Nicklas Backstrom as saying that he is fine and that he will play in Game 1.

The Thrashers have fired coach John Anderson. Frankly, I think GM Don Waddell needed to go. But there is hope Thrasher fans – he was promoted. So Rick Dudley takes over as GM (okay, not so much hope). This team needs a fullscale cleanup at the management level and it looks like they only half-assed it.

The Stars and Marty Turco will part ways this summer. He will not be offered a new contract. Given Kari Lehtonen’s injury history, I think that the Dallas depth chart needs a good hard look. If the Stars are one of those (idiot) teams who think that they get a player who is injured every year… but THIS time he’ll be okay, then they’re in for a surprise and may be reliant on a backup. I think Richard Bachman will be ahead of Matt Climie and Brent Krahn by Christmas. So unless things change with a free agent signing, I really like the outlook for him.

Need a playoff edge? I have extensive playoff previews from a hockey pool standpoint that can be found at The Hockey News, and Yahoo! Puck Daddy. For my THN Western Conference look, click here. For my THN Eastern Conference look, click here. Here is Puck Daddy West, and East.

Boston recalled their Black Aces from the minors yesterday – Dany Sabourin, Max Sauve, Mikko Lehtonen and Drew Larman. I don’t see any of them getting into a game.

Detroit has signed prospect Joakim Andersson to an ELC. The two-way center is ranked 223 on my prospects list (which, by the way, I know is late for this month’s update and I will try to have it done for tomorrow)

New Jersey has recalled Matt Corrente from Lowell.

Phoenix recalled their Black Aces – Josh Tordjman, Al Montoya, David Schlemko, Kyle Turris, Alexandre Picard, Joel Perrault, Brett MacLean and Mikkel Boedker. With some injuries you may see Schlemko, Perrault and/or Boedker, but it would take injuries for sure. Not draftable in your playoff pool.

The Gazette is reporting that Chris Kunitz (shoulder) is questionable for Game 1. Sounds like a game time decision.

Yesterday was the last day to make your picks in the DobberHockey Playoff Challenge. I’ll post the final tally later this morning. Prizes include an Easton Composite S17 stick, a jersey (name/number of your choosing), and a DobberHockey Ultimate Fantasy Pack! Check it out HERE
