Dobber here: Kaberle has been traded! No, wait a minute. The other speculative item… what was it? Um… oh, right – the new Shopping Cart is live! This impacts everyone as you have a new Downloads section. Please comment here if any issues. You can now purchase quickly without going through Paypal. Thanks for your patience.
One note on the Downloads page – that one we are still fixing up. It will be sorted by year with tabs. But I needed to get the sales part of the cart up now, so the rough Downloads page went up with it. UPDATE – download “refresh” issue has been fixed. The sort portion will be a day or two, but it is on the way.
Atlanta coach Craig Ramsey has confirmed that Dustin Byfuglien will come to camp as a defenseman. Byfuglien’s natural position is defense and he prefers playing it.
This is very big news for poolies, as he will now get F/D eligibility and will still see significant PP time as a forward. 18-22 goals with D eligibility is a realistic number to expect this coming season with Byfuglien.
Guerin wants to play in Philadelphia…. but do the Flyers need him? He could be a good PP specialist, and Philly has the depth to hide him at even strength. I just don’t really see a huge need for another scoring winger on that roster.
Dobber: Information on the Entry Tier of my annual invitational can be found here. You can enter by emailing me (and you must have purchased the Fantasy Guide) with the subject line “enter me in the pool”. If I draw your name, you’re in. If you are unfamiliar with roto league play, we also have a little handbook that we’ll put up soon.
Regarding Kaberle, oops – I mean the other heavily speculated topic of the summer, my new shop – I have seen it in action, it works now. They are just cleaning up the Downloads section and I hope to have an announcement today.
My columns have been all over the place this summer, but once October rolls around, I’ll get back into the weekly swing of things (as will many of our other writers).

What is the point of Toronto naming JS Giguere starting goalie before training camp?
Five players I’d go out and try to acquire in one-year leagues tomorrow: Roberto Luongo, Mike Ribeiro, Vincent Lecavalier, Andy Greene, and Alex Tanguay.
For keeper leagues: Zach Bogosian, Peter Regin, Tyler Bozak, Cody Franson, and Joe Colborne.
I won't be doing any more team audits, due to a lack of time, and the fact that our own Ian Fergusson is returning with his monthly audits.
If you sent me a team to be audited over the summer, I have saved your e-mail. Fire me an updated e-mail with three specific questions to that team and I'll do my best to get an answer back to you within 48 hours.
Columbus inked draft pick Ryan Johansen to an entry-level contract. This is merely housekeeping – he won't be on the team this season. He will return to Portland of the WHL, but he may be missing his favourite line mate (Nino Niederreiter).
As you may or may not know, I recently became certified as a personal trainer. Because of this, my internet access is limited during the day (and sometimes during the evening as well). If you never notice big news yet to be posted, have some patience. I'll always get to the important stuff as soon as I can.
With Marc Savard not going anywhere, here is how I see Boston's lines shaping up (Marco Sturm is out for the first half of the season):
Krejci between Wheeler and Horton. Two big bodies, a shooter, and a passer.
Savard between Lucic and Ryder. Ryder's last chance here. Savard is a fantastic playmaker, and Lucic has underrated offensive skills as well.
Bergeron between Seguin (moved to wing) and Recchi. A veteran and a fantastic defensive player for Seguin to play with and learn from. Boston has three very balanced lines capable of playing in a variety of situations. I really like their defense too (Hunwick and Boychuk are two young guys with top-four upside).
Even though the Oilers haven't traded Souray yet, it doesn't sound like he'll be playing in Edmonton this season. The Oilers haven't even heard from Souray's camp whether or not he will report to training camp.
I'd expect Marc Staal to be signed before camp. He is immensely important to the Rangers. He doesn't have a ton of fantasy value (especially considering the role he plays with the team right now), but with power play time he could peak at the 40-point mark during his career.
One free agent who surprisingly hasn't signed yet is Mike Mottau. He logged over 20 minutes per game on average for the Devils last season.
Some Friday tidbits from my own projections for the 2010-11 season:
I wouldn't be surprised to see Zach Bogosian up with the league leaders in goals among defensemen (Weber, Green, etc). He's a great skater, has a huge shot, and he loves to use it. Atlanta has an opening for the spot of trigger man on the first power play unit as well…
Buffalo's defense is awful. By default, Chris Butler could approach 35 points. Who else is going to play on the top unit with Tyler Myers? (And don't tell me Jordan Leopold.)
I see Montreal sticking with the combinations of Plekanec/Cammalleri and Gomez/Gionta on the top two lines. As of now, Kostitsyn and Pouliot are probably pencilled in
