Stamkos has no goals in his past six games.
Johan Harju has two points in his past two games for the Lightning. He was dominating the AHL before getting recalled by the team.
He isn't seeing much ice time right now, but if he continues to produce, that will change.
An underrated signing this past summer – Toni Lydman by the Ducks. He is playing solid hockey, and finding ways to chip in offensively as well.
After going pointless in six games, Nathan Horton has hit the score sheet in three straight games (two goals, two assists).
It sounds like Shawn Horcoff will be out for a couple of months with a knee injury. Huge blow to the team, but at the same time a huge opportunity to Gagner, Brule, and Edmonton's other centers.
Horcoff played a lot of the tough minutes up the middle… it will be interesting to see how they try to replace him.
Montreal defenseman Yannick Weber was pointless, but he did play over five minutes on the power play. He has forced PK Subban to the press box for a few games in a row now.
Peter Regin was a healthy scratch for the second straight game. Bobby Butler once again took his spot in the lineup.
For a team so devoid in offensive talent, scratching Regin is a real head scratcher (pun).
With 13 even strength goals, Milan Lucic ranks second in the entire league. Pretty impressive/surprising statistic.
We believe that the document error in the “downloads” section has been fixed.
Lots more on the way!
Thursday is the DobberHockey event at the River Rock Casino Lulu’s Lounge. Deals on food, lots of hockey talk, you get to meet Dobber, Angus, and others who are known in the community here. We also have a lot of give-aways including an autographed hockey stick (Canucks’ entire team). Starts at 6pm Thursday – hope to see you there!
Ryan O’Reilly scored last night for the Avalanche. Before the game, he had two goals in his previous 52 games.
Luke Adam (who I am very high on) scored his first career NHL goal for the Sabres last night. He is big, gritty, fast, and possesses soft hands. Buffalo needs size in their top six, and both Adam and Zach Kassian will supply it.
Mikael Samuelsson will be out for about a week with a mild concussion.
The Canucks have recalled Jonas Andersson from the AHL. They originally acquired Andersson from Nashville before the season started. He is a big and talented winger who hasn't really produced much to date this season.
I'd expect the second line to remain Raymond-Kesler-Tambellini.
Washington needs to give Mathieu Perreault and extended look on the team. I've made this point countless times. He's a legit NHL talent in a variety of roles (offensive or more of an energy/depth role).
Tyler Ennis reminds me a bit of Ales Hemsky in terms of his fearlessness. This is a good thing at times (you need to get to these areas to score) and a bad thing (injuries, especially with his lack of size).
I'd bet money that Daniel Alfredsson is nursing an injury. Doesn't have his usual jump (and I wouldn't blame age, as he was skating much better earlier in the season).
I'll have a few World Junior preview columns on the way – my favourite hockey of the year!
I will be at the Canucks/Ducks game tonight with Dobber and our graphics/website guru, Glen Hoos. Should be a fantastic time.
Crosby has new linemates – a hilarious read (and unfortunately pretty accurate).
Pat Kane will be out for a few weeks with an ankle sprain. Could have been a lot worse looking at the replay.
Does any other NHL player do less with their abilities than Rick Nash?
A few Oilers have impressed me lately – Ryan Whitney (all season), and Sam Gagner (last 10 games). Whitney has been a huge bright spot for Edmonton – steady defense, fantastic playmaking and breakout passing.
Gagner is playing with more jam and consistency. The offensive abilities have never been the issue, but he needs to be willing to go to the dirty areas to get the puck and to make plays.
