Helene Elliott is reporting that the Kings have verbally agreed to a contract with Willie Mitchell. She also reports that the Lightning have signed Randy Jones to a one-year deal, which adds some nice depth on the back end for them.   Bob McKenzie is reporting that Steve Downie has agreed to terms on [...]

Hornqvist deal is done. Three years, $9.25 million per Forechecker.   Goldie here - I was interviewed by Kent Wilson from Flames Nation on new backup Henrik Karlsson. He asked good questions.   Goldie - Regarding form-fitting pads, it's a slippery slope of faulty logic. One you form-fit pads to a goalie's specific leg measurements, you [...]

And even though I didn’t have a full-blown diatribe for this week, there were five interesting fantasy topics that caught my eye last week, as I continue to wait with great anticipation for August to expire.

Goldie here with a few goalie notes. Our good friend Rosso tweeted that Igor Bobkov is in fact heading to London, ONT to play with the Knights this season, while Pens prospect Alex Pechursky is expected to play in the AHL. That one interests me, as there's really no spot for him with Curry, Thiessen and Modig in the mix. He [...]

I’m in three keeper leagues and one of things I love most about the concept of a keeper league is that they keep you thinking fantasy hockey in August.   The NHL will approve a new rule stating that the first tie-breaker will be total wins without shootouts, as opposed to total wins period. Frank Seravalli looks at the (non) impact of this on last year's standings.   What would Andy Hilbert make this year if he made a different decision back in the [...]

Flying Under the Radar

Successful NHL general managers don’t rely on just one way they find talent for their teams.

The traditional way of drafting players and waiting for them to develop will always remain a fundamental component of a successful franchise, but hockey players don’t always develop at the same rate. GMs and scouting directors who keep their eyes and minds open to watch and reassess players after their draft eligibility are often rewarded.

If there is a chance that you may be able to acquire Jakub Voracek in your keeper league, get on it! Voracek isn't mentioned as an upper-echelon young talent, but that is exactly what he is.   He is more of a playmaker than a goalscorer, which is strange considering the fact that he [...]

Dobber here - I have a new ETA for the new shop (my third ETA, yeah yeah I know). Assuming that our testing for the new Downloads section works out this evening, we will launch the new shop tomorrow morning - meaning you can purchase the Fantasy Guide without the annoying Paypal extra legwork.
