The Midseason Guide is up now - enjoy! Buy it here   Cory Schneider is getting the start for the Canucks tonight - Luongo will face Detroit tomorrow.   Dallas has reacquired Jamie Langenbrunner from New Jesrsey for a conditional draft pick.   Three players I see having huge stretch runs – Shea Weber, [...]

No Need Getting All Defensive

I was going to write about how Ovechkin has fared since his suspension, but apparently I've been living in a protective plastic dome (please don't call it a bubble, it opens the door for those mean bubble boy jokes) for the last little while because apparently that topic has already been covered by Sports Illustrated and Yahoo! Sports.

Instead, I will talk about something near and dear to my heart, defensemen. There are some interesting situations playing out or about to play out in a few Eastern Conference cities.

Pick up the 2010-11 Midseason Guide here! It will be released tomorrow and is absolutely packed to the brim with fantasy hockey gold.   Cory Schneider's emergence as a legit NHL goaltender could be a huge blessing for Luongo and his fantasy owners.   Kevin Bieksa's last six games - plus-9, three goals, four [...]

Midseason Guide - out in TWO days! Pre-order it here.   Ryan Getzlaf is out for a month with a fractured sinus/orbital bone face. Big opportunity for Matt Beleskey and/or Joffrey Lupul to seize, as Bobby Ryan will probably move to center.   Flash actually has 16 in 16 for Colorado, not 14 in [...]

A Look Back to the Pre-Season Guide (2011)

Pending release of the MidSeason Guide later this week, I thought it would be a great idea to take a look back at the Pre-Season guide and see where I stand in comparison to four months ago. It’s always good to take a look back at past mistakes to help us prepare for the future. Plus it will give an insight to those who haven’t seen the content of the DobberHockey guides first hand.

Midseason Guide - out Friday - buy it here.   Bit of an "OOPS". I just noticed on the sales page that the Midseason Guide is released on January 9. This is WRONG, I assure you. The Midseason Guide is out on January 7 - a Friday. I would never release a guide at [...]

Eleven Goalie Prospects to Watch in 2011

There’s no better way to kick off the new calendar year than by writing a School of Block lesson that reflects the general psyche of a goaltender. So instead of looking behind us and recapping 2010, I want to look ahead and help you prepare for what could be a 2011 stuffed to the brim with goalie prospects.

Michael Del Zotto has been sent to the minors. It was the right move. But we've seen flashes of what he can do, he's a great hockey player with a bright future. I still think he can be a 55-point defenseman. Think of this as a confidence boost.   Philadelphia has waived Michael Leighton. [...]

Power Chords: Erik Gustafsson

By |2011-01-03T03:04:19-05:00January 3rd, 2011|Roos Lets Loose|

Gustaffson

(Dobber's Note: If NHL teams can call up a player from the minors to fill in for an injury/absence, why can't we at DobberHockey do the same thing? Some great hockey minds contribute to the PG Advised and Dub's Take. So when we need content due to a sick or absent columnist, we pluck a recent one from the forum. This is an excellent audition for any up-and-coming writers who think they have the insight and skills to get into this business. Contribute, get noticed, and who knows? Perhaps we'll call you up from the minors next!)

I can stay silent no more! This kid has been teetering on the brink of being my next prospect profiled ever since I finished up my bit on Jaden Schwartz. Actually, he's a guy I've been tracking since before Schwartz ever got onto my radar. I started looking at this kid when he was still playing in college last year but as an undrafted free agent was seeking an NHL contract. There's been an influx of undrafted NHL talent from the college ranks in recent years and with the instant success of guys like Tyler Bozak I've been searching for the next big thing. Well Gustafsson was touted in the top 10 of the available college free agents from last spring so naturally he was on my radar and with such an acumen for offense it was clear there was only one way he was getting to the NHL.
