Next, re: the Prospects Report – I have what I need from Matt Bugg, but I’m taking off for a couple of days. Look for the re-release of this on Monday, complete with a revised three rounds of the Mock Draft, plus an extra Ottawa prospect.

The Devils have filed for arbitration with Zach Parise. They said that they are still hoping to work out a long-term deal. Something tells me that one doesn't get done. Parise took a huge pay cut last time the two sides negotiated, but the Devils are probably leery of opening up the vault for a player coming off of a serious knee injury.

Is Jeff Carter better at wing or center? Tim Lucarelli lets us know.

Dan Hamhuis is expected to have surgery for a sports hernia next week. He could miss training camp.

I'd expect Kevin Bieksa to re-sign with the Canucks at a similar rate as Hamhuis ($4.5 million per).

Christian Ehrhoff, I'm not so sure about. Vancouver is probably the best possible situation for him (save for Pittsburgh with a healthy 87 and 71), so draft/trade accordingly if the German does end up leaving Vancouver for greener pastures.

The Canucks and Keith Ballard both said today that they hope to change things for next season, but I think this was just talk (at least from one side). I don't see how you can go back to a player who was healthy scratched over a raw rookie (Chris Tanev) and a player with a broken hand (Edler) in game seven.

Talks are progressing between Bryzgalov and the Flyers… but no contract yet. I could see a three or four year pact worth $6 or $6.5 million, but can the Flyers open enough cap space to complete the move? Is it too much money?

Sounds like the Rangers won't be able to buy out an injured Drury. Drury has a degenerative condition in his knee. He won't count towards the cap if he sits out the season on the LTIR, but he'll count against the cap in the summer, which affects any potential contract offer made to Brad Richards.

I made the point last season – the Rangers have a phenomenal young core. They are only a player or two away from contention. Richards may be that guy, but they can't handcuff themselves down the road with a ridiculous contract.

The Penguins aren't close to a contract with Tyler Kennedy. I don't blame Ray Shero for playing hardball – Kennedy had a solid offensive season, but it was due in large part to the injuries ahead of him on the depth chart. He lacks the creativity and consistency required out of a top six NHL forward.

Kennedy has a Jason Blake-like ability to skate for miles and accomplish absolutely nothing.

Still not ready to proclaim my Jeff Skinner of 2011 just yet… but the Prospects Report has narrowed down my choices!

The Hurricanes haven't rushed out to re-sign Erik Cole yet. Jussi Jokinen won't be back. The top six next year could feature Eric Staal, Tuomo Ruutu, and three or four rookies/sophomores (Boychuk, Dalpe, Skinner, Bowman).

Carolina really intrigues me this summer. Only three regular forwards from last season are under contract (Staal/Skinner/Ruutu). Their top defenseman won't be back (Pitkanen). They have a ton of important roster spots likely to be awarded to rookies and sophomores – McBain on the back end.

Don't sleep on defenseman Justin Faulk, either. He is a bit raw but possesses a ton of offensive upside.

Michael Ryder is a free agent in a few weeks – eight goals and 17 points in the postseason definitely boosted his value. Does he stick around in Boston? Probably not. The Bruins have a slew of young wingers who are close to NHL action (Jordan Caron being the most notable), and both Seguin and Peverley have earned more ice time for 2011-12.

Interesting comments from Vancouver GM Mike Gillis yesterday – the team has zero intention of trading Cory Schneider, and they want him to stick around in Vancouver "for five or six more years." This could just be lawyer-speak (Gillis is one of the best), but I don't see 35 leaving the team unless a team steps up and blows Vancouver's socks off with a no brainer of a trade offer.
