Yesterday and today have been editing days for the 2011-12 Fantasy Guide. Will be out on Monday. More information than ever, of course. Pick your copy up here. Updated daily/weekly until puck drop in October.
Jason Botchford weighs in on the Canucks, who aren't done making moves with some cap space still there.
A one-year deal for Zach Parise – $6 million. Cue the trade rumors…
Happy long weekend to all of my fellow British Columbians. Hope we get some sunshine for more than a day or two in a row (worst summer ever).
The Jets have signed their 4th round pick from 2010 – Russian Ivan Telegin. Check out a solid interview from Jets Nation (a great blog, by the way). Telegrin seems like he has a good head on his shoulders.
Has it really come to me defending Nik Zherdev? His career numbers aren't all that bad. Sure he is lazy and may not work hard in practice, but on a contending team looking for a bit of offense on the second or third line, he has to be an option.
It's probably at the point now in his career where what you see is what you get. No more tantalizing upside of 40 goals and highlight reel goals every night. However, if given 12-14 EV minutes and 1-2 PP minutes per game, I see no reason why he can't get 15-25 goals.
Worried about a lockout next summer? Don't be.
My first piece for The Hockey Writers will be out next week. I decided to profile underrated and unknown Canucks prospect Darren Archibald. Undrafted, the Canucks signed him midway through last season. He's a tough and physical power forward with good speed and a great shot.
How did Jamie McBain do last season? Canes Country lets us know.
A few KHL signings – Brent Sopel, and Alex Kovalev. I'm surprised Sopel couldn't get a cheap one-way deal somewhere else in the league (maybe he did, but Russia offered more money, who knows).
All 15 of Zherdev's goals from last season – absolutely sick move at the 1:00 mark:
