Late notes – the Blues have placed Chorney back on waivers. The Jets have placed Ben Maxwell on waivers per TSN. And Philly has extended Brayden Coburn for four years at $18 million bones.

Scott Parse left last night’s game with an LBI and is “a little more than day-to-day“. Looks like Trent Hunter draws in.

Well thank goodness. I take some heat every year for my bad calls, although admittedly this year hasn't been too bad because so far a higher than average percentage of my projections are looking very good. But one guy who has been the subject of some emails and tweets is Jaroslav Halak. But with the Ken Hitchcock hiring, I've been touting him (hoping) for a rebound. Last night he pulled through with a shutout. He'll build on that.

Kevin Shattenkirk and Chris Stewart also looked good. The news was not so good for Patrik Berglund and Evgeni Grachev. The latter saw his ice time go down even further under Hitch (expected) and the former was shut off the scoresheet. Again.

Ryan Miller laid another egg. But he got the win so that's something to build on. Had he lost, even in the shootout, I'd have to think that Enroth pushes the door open a little wider. Instead, it closes.

Derek Roy's three points give him five during a three-game points streak. He may be well behind some of the other boys on his team, but he'll still finish first or second in team scoring. Your 'buy low' window on him closed last night.

A swing and a miss on this one – I felt that the signing of Ville Leino and the emergence of Gerbe and Ennis would mean that Pominville is back to the third line and 50 points. Nope. Ennis hasn't shown much and has been hurt the last couple weeks, Leino has been terrible… and Pominville has been flying. Gerbe is the only player doing what I figured, out of those four.

Gerbe has a three-game points streak, by the way. Leino – pointless in 18:30 of ice time and minus-2.

Buffalo prospect Corey Tropp scored his first career NHL goal. He is another solid prospect for the Sabres, but there is no room for him to thrive this year or next unless he forces his way on the way Adam (this year) and Gerbe (last year) did.

At this point, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I have to recommend Tanner Glass for your roto league. On pace for 40 points, 80 PIM and plus-10. He won't finish that way, of course. But he's hot right now and those are solid multi-cat numbers.

Big Buff is back – two points and 12 PIM for the Jets last night.

Jordan Leopold is completely off the power play. While Derek Roy saw 9:42 on the PP, Leopold saw nine seconds. Meanwhile, Ehrhoff (six minutes), Gragnani (4:24), Pominville (9:47) and Myers (6:38) saw the bulk of it on the blue line. Sekera also saw zilch.

Jack Skille has three points in his last two games and has played increasingly well. He is developing into this great energy guy and had not been converting on his chances, so this recent spurt is good to see. He had five shots against the Leafs, too.

Shawn Matthias is another player who has played better with every game and he posted two points. He has 14 shots in his last five games after just six in his first eight. Two points against the Leafs and plus-2.

That's 12 goals on the Leafs in two games. Uh oh… burst bubble? Gustavsson got the hood, but Scrivens wasn't any better.

Why is it when I see the Preds score a goal, I expect Craig Smith to be in on it? How great has he been when it's "expected" of him instead of "hope" or "wonder"?

Sergei Kostitsyn did not play again, but I expect him back by next game. LBI.

Patric Hornqvist has seven goals and 27 shots in his last six games. He had zero and 11 shots in the seven games prior.

Zac Dalpe played just 5:18 and was minus-1 in his return to NHL action. So yeah, back to how it was before he got hurt.

Jiri Tlusty looks like he is turning his career around, then I write a THN column on him … and he goes pointless and minus-7 in three games. Yep, it doesn't always come up Millhouse for me.

Adam Henrique is now on a four-game points streak, with six points during the run. He's not shooting a lot, but he's scoring on what he does throw at the net.

Have you ever seen Eric Staal do this? In his last nine games – zero goals, one assist and minus-8.

I know someone with Staal, Zetterberg and Stastny in the pool. Ouch. You can't foresee these things. All three should bounce back. Of the three, who do you have the least confidence in? (let me guess – Stastny? Me too).

Cody Eakin followed up his two-point effort with another point last night. So three points in three career games and he's plus-3. Worth a pickup. They'll just keep scratching Mathieu Perreault until he cools off.

Columbus paid a pretty decent pick (a fourth) yesterday to acquire Mark Letestu. I don't think Letestu will help any fantasy leagues, but the trade does have a domino effect that I will get into in my trade analysis later today.

Pittsburgh prospect Tom Kuhnhackl was suspended for 20 OHL games for his hit on Ryan Murphy (to the head) Friday. Murphy suffered a concussion and will miss the Super Series.

The Pens sent Dustin Jeffrey to the minors on a conditioning stint. Long overdue. He needs a ton of ice time and he needs to put the puck in the net a few times and then give the NHL another try.

Val Filppula has three points and is plus-5 in his last two games. He saw 20 minutes last night, so there is every reason to believe that his little hot run will continue and if healthy a career season is in the cards.

Mattias Ritola, who recently cleared waivers, will not report to the AHL and instead will return to Europe, with Yzerman's blessing.

Another interesting, minor trade – the Rangers acquired Pierre-Marc Bouchard's brother Francois. His NHL dreams are on life support. The former Q star needs something to happen quickly – and Hartford offers a better opportunity.

Mason Raymond returned to the Canucks' practice for the first time this year. I'm guessing he's back before the 23^rd. My guess. I have him on IR in two leagues, using a late pick on him.

I finished 234th (ouch) in last night’s $500 free roll. How did you do?
