Wayne Gretzky scored 92 goals back in 1981-82. The LA Kings have 120 goals all season. A completely irrelevant comparison, sure, but still pretty funny.   The 2012 DobberBaseball Guide is now out - pick it up here.   Nicklas Grossman will be making his Flyer debut tonight, playing with Andrej Meszaros.   PK [...]

Saturday’s NHL Picks – February 18

Booth

Short schedule from which to select my card this week, but nonetheless there are certainly some beauts that are ripe for the picking! Last week, I presented you my picks just after a brisk skate down the Rideau Canal, during my road trip to Ottawa from Toronto to see the Sens/Leafs contest lopsided pounding. Toronto thoroughly obliterated their provincial rivals in each and every facet of the game except SOG. However on that note, Optimus Reim was so in the zone that even a 49 shot barrage was converted into a goose egg, as the Leafs took it to the very team they are closest to chasing by a 5-0 score.

Mike Smith has consecutive shutouts, and he has allowed only six goals in a personal six-game winning streak. He's been huge for Phoenix all season. Maybe the Flyers would be interested in acquiring him to shore up their goaltending issues?   Ryan Johansen has been a healthy scratch in five of the last seven [...]

Lehtonen

With the madness of the NHL Trade Deadline just over a week away, most leagues are likely gearing up for their own deadline as well. Some leagues have it on the exact day as the NHL, while others push it back so it is closer to your playoffs. Whatever the case may base, it’s going to be the last chance you have to make some moves with the opposing managers in your league.

Goalies at the Trade Deadline: Part II

Nikolai Khabibulin

Last week, Part I of this four-part series identified some teams that were desperate for a goaltending upgrade. It looks as if that list has stayed relatively the same over the past week; Chicago is still on a downward spiral, Toronto just barely broke a four-game losing streak last night in Edmonton, the Lightning are just 1-1-1 over the past week, and the Blue Jackets are like the lame kids at lunch trying to trade that gross bologna sandwich known as Steve Mason.

Minor NHL trade - Edmonton has shipped out Ryan O'Marra to Anaheim in exchange for defenseman Bryan Rodney. Neither player has any fantasy upside. Rodney had 11 points in 22 games two years ago in Carolina, and he's been a solid point-producer in the AHL for the last while.   Frozen Pool analysis on [...]
