Penguins Acquire Jussi Jokinen

Fantasy Impact – The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired Jussi Jokinen from the Carolina Hurricanes for a conditional draft pick, and Carolina is taking on part of the salary. Jussi makes $3 million in 2013-14.
The Penguins get – a shootout specialist and streaky point producer who compliments skilled linemates. He could surprise, for as long as Sidney Crosby is out. Definitely an upgrade to Tyler Kennedy.
The Hurricanes get – some cap relief and a draft pick.
Fantasy Players Impacted – The move frees up some ice time up front in Carolina, and that will be given to youngsters such as Drayson Bowman and Riley Nash. Neither become fantasy relevant, although Bowman is worth keeping an eye on if he can take advantage.
Down the stretch, Jokinen has a lot of value, as he will likely be slotted into Crosby’s spot between Pascal Dupuis and Chris Kunitz. That should be good for nine or 10 points to end the campaign. If Dupuis, Brenden Morrow and Jarome Iginla all move on in the summer, Jokinen will have value next year as a winger on a big line. Very volatile, in terms of Jokinen’s fantasy value for 2013-14. His playoff value is touch and go, as Sid will be back and Jussi could be the odd man out.
His arrival will keep Dustin Jeffrey out of the lineup and knock Kennedy back to the fourth line.
