So what do you think of the new look? I know that if you’re looking at this from your phone… you love it. But not too shabby on the desktop as well, eh?
Great feedback below in the comments, thank you. Our view is limited to what we see on our screens/platforms so getting feedback from what you see on your particular screen is helpful. Keep in mind that this new look was just launched and we fully expected a pile of minor tweaks and fixes.

The Flyers have bought out the contract of Ilya Bryzgalov, who is now a (rich) unrestricted free agent.
Some more injury news about what the players played through in the Final:
– Bryan Bickell had a “Grade 2” knee sprain and played the last 10 games with that.
– Marian Hossa has a “bad back”, per TSN
– Toews, of course, had a concussion, though they’ll never admit that he had one and played with it. So they’re calling it “bell rung”.
– Patrice Bergeron had a broken rib, torn cartilage and a separated shoulder.
– further speculation that will leak out will include the injuries to Jagr, Chara and Horton. And I suspect that Toews has another injury that he played through the entire postseason with.

Congrats to the Blackhawks – from start to finish, one hell of a kickass season. Shocking finish, too. Who would have thought that a team you are beating with two minutes left could come back and break your hearts like that?
Patrick Kane won the Conn Smythe trophy. He had seven goals and nine points in his last eight games. Seven goals in the last eight games before winning the Cup, well that will get you the Smythe every time.

David Krejci won the playoff scoring title. The second time he’s done that. He had 23 points in 2011 and now 26 points in 2013. He has 73 points in 81 career playoff games. He had 73 points in his career season back 2008-09, but that was in 82 games.

Bryan Bickell‘s goal gave him 17 points for the playoffs. Hands up if you figured he would finish second on the Cup Champions in points? Well he did. And was fifth in the league. And in unrelated news, his agent just died and went to heaven. He’s an unrestricted free agent next week.
Several sources are saying that Michal Handzus played with a broken wrist and a torn MCL.
*
Top-scoring non-Cup Finalist – Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin. They each had 16 points, tied for sixth.

The Jets signed Claude Noel to a one-year extension. And that’s how it’s done. If you don’t make the playoffs but you like your coach, you give him a one-year extension so he’s not a lame duck in the season ahead, but at the same time you’re not stuck with his contract for long if you have to fire him. So the Phoenix Coyotes gave Tippett how much for how long?

Martin Havlat underwent groin surgery and will be out indefinitely. More importantly, he now cannot be bought out by the Sharks. So there you go.
If I’m Mike Komisarek, I’m going in for voluntary groin surgery. Just make something up, invent the pain, keep insisting that it’s there.

The Wild have given Niklas Backstrom a three-year extension worth $10.25 million. So he’s off the FA market. Fortunately for Darcy Kuemper, Backstrom is a Band-Aid Boy. And not to sound callous, but Backstrom doesn’t get that contract if Josh Harding isn’t stricken with MS. Harding is a good goaltender who could be a starter, but he’s a fragile goalie and last year’s diagnosis and subsequent treatments make his availability even more uncertain. I’m still eyeing Kuemper as a keeper option come draft day.

The Penguins traded Alex Grant to Anaheim for Harry Zolnierczyk, beefing up their minor-league affiliate with a player who can certainly be called up if they need him.

I wondered about this one, and now it becomes even more curious – the Panthers acquired Bobby Butler in the TJ Brennan trade and yesterday they signed him to a two-year deal. I don’t know if it’s a one-way deal, but he does have to clear waivers. I think he starts with the big club and if they play him on a favorable line he could surprise.

And to close things off for another season…. CBC’s closing montage:
