Fantasy Impact: The Calgary Flames have acquired TJ Galiardi from the San Jose Sharks for a fourth-round draft pick. The Flames promptly signed him to a one-year deal worth $1.25 million.
The Sharks get: a middle-round pick in 2015 for a player who was pushed out of the mix when they acquired Tyler Kennedy.
The Flames get: a streaky winger who is miscast as a second-liner and is best suited on the third line or as a depth offensive option. He is solid defensively and could be used to kill penalties. That may be the way to go for him, as he has had several failed attempts on scoring lines.
Fantasy Players Impacted: Galiardi played in Calgary when he was in junior, so perhaps this gives him a spark. But I wouldn’t bet on it. His career high is 39 points and I don’t see it topping 50. The Sharks moving him out certainly helps the likes of James Sheppard see ice time, or a prospect such as Matt Nieto, Tomas Hertl or Travis Oleksuk make the team.
