Ducks trade Viktor Fasth to Edmonton and Dustin Penner to Washington
Fantasy Impact: Ducks trade forward Dustin Penner to the Capitals and goalie Viktor Fasth to the Oilers.
The Capitals get: A veteran forward who can score if in the right situation and properly motivated.
The Oilers get: A backup goalie with the potential to compete with Ben Scrivens for the number one job.
Fantasy Players impacted: Fasth, Penner, Ben Scrivens, Frederik Andersen, Capitals secondary scorers.
Penner's career looked to be done after combining for just nine goals in the previous two seasons, but he looked somewhat rejuvenated with the Ducks this year, scoring 13 times and posting 32 points in 49 games. With that being said, most of Penner's production came in the first two months of the season and he's slowed considerably since then. He was even a healthy scratch on a few occasions from Bruce Boudreau. Still, he's only 31 and has a good chance at completing another 20-goal year in Washington.
Penner has spent much of his time this season with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, but with their skill sets they will hardly be hurt with the departing Penner. However, some secondary Ducks players could now benefit from some extra shifts with Perry and Getzlaf. Jakob Silfverberg, Kyle Palmieri, or Mathieu Perreault (when healthy) come to mind.
Where Washington is concerned it could hinder some forwards' production. Wingers like Troy Brouwer, Eric Fehr and Joel Ward could find themselves in a log jam for minutes all of a sudden.
Lastly, I think it's very important to note that Penner was dealt on National Pancake Day.
