The Ducks remain the class of the NHL this season, despite the Blackhawks chasing full speed behind them. All the more impressive has been the two serious bouts of injury/illness by Corry Perry, as well as numerous ailments throughout the roster, namely a brutal Mumps virus affecting several. However they still have the horses to get the job done. Speaking of horses, Frederick Andersen is already attempting to usurp Corey Schneider's 20+ game consecutive start streak earlier this season, with 17 straight and counting of his own.

The Wild have been slowly but surely inching themselves into a top eight playoff spot. With contributions from Mikael Granlund, Mikko Koivu and Jason Pominville still lacking from expectations, there's no wonder why this team with the skillset to be a threat has not been as of yet. Though a strong run may well be on the way soon for the improving Minnesota squad, now that Ryan Suter has returned from his own battle of the Mumps and Parise from a knock. The Coyotes have been terrible. Their goaltending has been horrendous. Sam Gagner has gone to the desert to die. None of these thing are going to prevent them from ultimately falling into the periphery of the Connor McDavid sweepstakes come season's end.

Nashville @ San Jose (10:30pm ET)

The Preds have really raised some eyebrows this year, showing an ability to score that quite frankly they've NEVER been able to in their existence for any stretch of elongated consistency. I made note of this on multiple occasions in previous rants in my Frozen Pools forensics column, but the subtle addition of Mike Ribeiro has been a near Godsend for Nashville given the bang for buck they are getting from his $1.05 million contract. The acquisition of James Neal changed the philosphy of the club for so long centred around the defensive philosophy shared by David Poile and more importantly, Barry Trotz. The dawn of a new era in Tennessee can be seen on a nightly basis with youngster Filip Forsberg running away with the Calder trophy race to boot. The Sharks have been up and down. They can be dangerous on any given night but have lacked consistency and have had a penchant for making their losses come at the hands of the laughing stocks.
