Crosby sick, Glencross trending down, Jurco is intriguing, Hartnell down and more…

The Penguins got some reinforcements back last night with both Kris Letang and Patric Hornqvist returning to the lineup. Neither one was eased back with Letang skating 27:16 and Hornqvist 18:40. Letang scored the game-winner.

Of course, the Penguins being cursed with injury woes, as those two returned, Sidney Crosby was forced out of the lineup due to illness. The Penguins are saying that it's not the mumps but really guys? Look at that face. It's not mumps? I actually don't care what the nature of Crosby's illness is. I'm just annoyed with how disingenuous teams are about injuries.

With Crosby out the Penguins went with two defensemen on the top power play unit. Letang reclaimed one of the spots, while Paul Martin was granted the other spot. Martin could be worth snagging for a spot start tonight's game against Columbus if you have an opening.

Rob Klinkhammer scored his first goal as a Penguin. He did so in just 11 minutes of ice time. He simply hasn't received a top-six role since coming over from Arizona. Consider him irrelevant in all but the deepest of leagues unless something changes here.

With Marc-Andre Fleury going last night, you can expect Tomas Greiss to get the start tonight for Pittsburgh.

It looks like it's time to jump off of Curtis Glencross. He has scored 17 points in the last 20 games but has just one in his last three. More importantly, Glencross's minutes have dried up in the past three games having skated just 13:31, 12:27 and 14:09 in each game respectively. That's down about 4-5 minutes per game from the previous 18 where he hadn't skated less than 17:21 in any one contest.

Glencross has been shuffled down the lineup skating fewer minutes with Sean Monahan and instead having Josh Jooris as his main centerman. Glencross did skate 4:52 on the power play last night, many of those minutes with Monahan but didn't see much time on the Flames' top unit with Johnny Gaudreau and Jiri Hudler.

Mason Raymond has been held scoreless in three games since returning to the lineup but he has been stealing some of those Monahan minutes from Glencross. The other "criminal" here is Joe Colborne who has one point in two games since returning himself.

It is worth debating how beholden Bob Hartley will be to these lineup changes given the losing skid his team is now on. He may look to return to a state of normalcy reuniting Monahan and Glencross. We will have to monitor this situation closely.

Definitely shop Glencross around now. You probably won't find many believers but you'd rather get out now than be left holding the bag.

Stephen Weiss has no luck. He left last night's contest after an awkward hit from Sean Bergenheim. It is believed to be a separated shoulder, which means we are looking at a couple of weeks here at least.

Give Tomas Jurco a look. He's not as hot as he was a week ago but his minutes are up. He has been skating with Henrik Zetterberg and Gustav Nyquist at evens and on the top power play unit. Jurco skated just 14:02 last night but just a few weeks ago he was skating less than 10 minutes on your average night so this is a step up. Most importantly, 4:02 of his minutes came on the power play. Look for production if this continues.

Sekac shows some patience:

Do I need to talk about how special PK Subban is after a three-point night or can we all just accept that as a given? Fine. Subban has nine points in the last seven games and has climbed into a tie for fifth in defenseman scoring with 22. He'll finish in the top three when all is said and done.

I know that a couple of days ago I said that I wouldn't talk Oilers but I have to break the silence. I am intrigued by what's going on with Jeff Petry of late. Are the Oilers showcasing Petry or simply looking to utilize him better?

All I know is that Petry's power play minutes are way up the past four games. He has skated over half of the Oilers' power play minutes in each of those games and was up to 3:58 in power play time last night.

Petry has never produced at a fantasy relevant rate as a professional and I don't expect him to start now but he does have a couple of power-play points over these past four games. He is also shooting the puck more than ever and is on pace for a career high 150 SOG.

The Ducks have activated Jason LaBarbera and have sent Dany Heatley's corpse to the minors for a conditioning stint. How does one condition a corpse? Is all their embalming fluid stored down in Norfolk? They better be prepared to keep him down there for the rest of the season because a couple of weeks isn't going to get him in shape. Heatley was skating like an 80-year-old before he got hurt, are they saying he got slower? What are the odds Heatley's secret groin surgery was actually a procedure to give him robot legs? Okay, I think I got that out of my system.

I was expecting to see Ilya Bryzgalov this weekend with the Ducks playing last night and again today in Winnipeg but he suited up for Norfolk last night. Will Freddie Andersen get the rare back-to-back start or does LaBarbera draw in now that he's healthy?

The Ducks have another back-to-back coming this Thursday/Friday so we'll see if Bryzgalov joins the team by then for his first start of the season.

By the way, Bryzgalov stopped 32 of 34 for the Admirals but lost. The corpse went minus-one.

The Blackhawks aren't releasing any specifics regarding Jonathan Toews' injury but confirmed that he is travelling with the team. I'd take that as a slight positive but it doesn't mean he won't miss time.

Scott Hartnell has been placed on IR by the Blue Jackets. He'll miss a couple of weeks with a broken finger. Kerby Rychel has been recalled.

I'd look for Boone Jenner to step up here. He has already reclaimed his spot alongside Ryan Johansen at even strength and could do the same on the power play with Hartnell out. Jenner is already hot having scored goals in four straight games before being held off the board on Thursday night.

Jamie McGinn may very well be done for the season following back surgery.

The Swiss exodus has begun! Both Damien Brunner and Jesse Joensuu are heading off to Switzerland leaving the Devils and Oilers respectively. Neither one had been playing regularly, let alone producing so the fantasy impact is minimal. Brunner could return and have an impact somewhere next season though, as long as he signs for a low price.

More excellence in Elliotte Friedman's latest 30 Thoughts:

15. Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli and assistant GM Don Sweeney were on a lengthy power-forward viewing tour. (If he could skate, the Bruins might have pursued the Lakers' Carlos Boozer.) Chiarelli did not want to discuss it, but word last weekend was the Bruins were not close on anything. With that being said, there was a feeling at the Board of Governors meeting that things have intensified on Sabres forward Chris Stewart.

Right now Boston and Buffalo are like two high schoolers at the prom deciding whether or not to dance. Eventually, you've got to make your move, or go on to the next victim.

I've been beating this drum since September.
