Hamilton’s injury is trouble for the Bruins, the Rangers offense awakens, Ekman-Larsson scores 20 and more…

The Bruins were without Dougie Hamilton yesterday due to injury. We still don't know the severity as he'll undergo tests today but generally that's not a good thing. Certainly not for anyone vested in the Bruins.
The Bruins got smacked around by the Lightning yesterday as Tuukka Rask was chased halfway through allowing four goals on 12 shots. I wouldn't necessarily overreact here because the Lightning can do that to anyone but I'd have some concerns about the viability of Rask as an option after that game. And really, if you've got Rask it's unlikely that you are still alive given the week he had. I got crushed in my head-to-head league because Rask single-handedly sewered my goalie stats. Oh well, can't win 'em all.
One guy who might benefit here is Torey Krug. He skated on both power play units yesterday leading the team with 3:10 in power play time. No one else skated over two minutes. The double-shifting may not continue but if it does Krug is a winner. Everyone else suffers from losing Hamilton's 21 minutes a night though.
This also probably kills the Bruins' playoff hopes. Sure they are still technically in the #8 spot but only by one point and the red hot Senators now have two games in hand with which to leap from the Bruins. In other words the Senators hold the cards.
It's almost irrelevant who makes the playoffs in that #8 spot. Whoever gets in becomes a sacrificial lamb to one of the Rangers or Canadiens. And yes, it's the playoffs so anything can happen but Ottawa or Boston beating one of those two teams would be a genuine upset. The NHL is dripping with parity but not in any of those series.

I'd be remiss if I didn't include the Lightning in that first overall conversation as well. They are right there and absolutely rolling in good health. Ondrej Palat has been back for two games and has four points. When these guys are healthy they can roll four lines as well as any team in the league. They boast the second best goal differential in the league at plus-50, which is the single best indicator of playoff success that I've found.

Justin Abdelkader has enjoyed a charmed season and yesterday was no different as he bounced one off the opponent's head to assist on the tying goal and then used a broken stick to score the game-winner in overtime:
With Johan Franzen's career looking like it might be over due to concussions Abdelkader might become a real fantasy threat beyond this season. It really all depends on how long it takes for Anthony Mantha (read more on him here) to develop because that kid is a load. If you've ever seen him play then you know that he's someone you want to stick in front of the net. Mantha's numbers in his first year as a pro (27 points in 53 AHL games) suggest that he probably won't be ready to make the Red Wings next season so keep Abdelkader in mind.
I do need to mention that Abdelkader's shooting percentage this season is 14.7% despite being an 8.1% career shooter, which suggests he should regress. I'd push that harder if he wasn't skating with Zetterberg and being used as the net-front presence. That's how you get easy goals.
Aside from Abdelkader the Red Wings' offense was awfully quiet yesterday and has been in the three games that Pavel Datsyuk has missed recently. He was out again yesterday despite optimism that he might only miss two games. The latest is that Datsyuk might return tomorrow, if not Thursday.

Kevin Shattenkirk is getting closer to a return for the Blues. He didn't travel with the team so he definitely won't play tomorrow in Pittsburgh but the team doesn't play again until Saturday, at home. Maybe he returns then, which would leave him with seven games over the final two weeks to rack up points. Just being optimistic here.
By the way, the Blues' power play has gone 10/58 (17.2%) without Shattenkirk and 40/163 (24.5%) with him. Granted that only amounts to an extra four extra goals over the two months that he has been out but those four goals might have gone a long way to securing the President's Trophy.

Oh wow, the Ducks got smoked in New York. I'm not sure life gets any easier on the goalie front either as both Freddie Andersen (three goals on seven shots) and John Gibson (four goals on 22 shots) got shelled. Andersen took the loss and ultimately looks worse but this looks like a team loss to me.
On the plus side, Corey Perry scored two goals on eight shots to help continue his recent revival.
Sami Vatanen has two points in two games since returning, which seems like a positive as well.
