Fantasy Impact: The Philadelphia Flyers have hired Dave Hakstol to coach the team

The Flyers get: by all accounts an “intense” coach. Another Darryl Sutter or Mike Babcock when it comes to intensity. He’ll bring a disciplined approach to the team, which is exactly what it needs. The talent is there, but someone needs to wield the hammer.

On the other side of the coin, the players reknowned for their work ethic and fitness could be rewarded here. First name that pops into my head is Matt Read. Also Sean Couturier.

But as I clearly noted – these are just speculative odds. Not in stone. Merely first thoughts that in some cases could nudge me towards (or away from) pulling the trigger in trade discussions.

You can read up on Hakstol’s background in this article here.

Keeping Karlsson Short Shifts – The Wilkes-Jarry Penguins

Elizabeth and Lewis are back to take listeners through a host of power play changes that are giving managers the opportunity to get exposure to great players off the waiver wire, including Philly, Jersey, and Tampa talk. They also cover Jarry’s AHL demotion, Cooley’s ascension to the top-line and powerplay, and injuries to Tavares and Hintz. The duo wrap up with some hot and cold streak deep dives, including discussion of the Red Wings crazy powerplay success in the last ten games, whether Erik Gustafsson is rosterable or an overperforming illusion, Fantilli’s continued success, Merilainen as Hamburglar 2.0, and whether Schenn’s success and Neighbours’ lack thereof are likely to continue.
