Ramblings: Christmas edition on top scorers, Calder picks and more (Dec. 25)

2015-12-25

Rambling about the big scorers since November 1; The Calder Trophy (so far); WJC and more …

***

Merry Christmas everyone! For your present, I’ve arranged it so that your fantasy squad puts forth a record-setting week in your league this week. I’m pretty sure it will work, I traded a really nice cow in exchange for magic beans that the guy said would grant this sort of thing. So enjoy!

And as I do every year for seven years now – Happy Birthday to my daughter Avery. And here were the Ramblings that I posted on that day seven years ago (the day after, actually). That’s my note of joy in amongst the Rambles by Marcus and Angus. Yes, neither Christmas nor the birth of the founder’s daughter can stop the Ramblings!

Thirty-four players have 20 points or more since November 1. Let’s take a look:

Impressive: Mike Hoffman with 25 points in 24 games. I honestly never knew he had it in him. Just as I’m disappointed in myself for “over” projecting the Penguins and Ducks, I’m equally disappointed in the big swing-and-a-miss with Hoffman..

Impressive II: Leon Draisaitl. The guy is 14th in league scoring since November 1.

Sneaky: I had no idea that Alex Steen had been kicking so much ass…

Sneaky II: Tyler Bozak is tied for 20th in league scoring since November 1. Huh?

*

At this point it looks to be a five-horse race for the Calder Trophy, though I wouldn’t count out Jack Eichel. But as far as “deserving” goes, I’m looking at Artemi Panarin, Max Domi, Dylan Larkin, Colton Parayko and the late-comer Shayne Gostisbehere. You?

Brendan Ross has sure been busy over at DobberProspects. It’s WJC time! That’s right – the World Junior Hockey Championship kicks off tomorrow and Rossy previews the squads and players to watch. Here are links to his previews of:

Thanks for the great ramblings today! I would love your thoughts on the following based on a points only keeper:

If you had to keep two of Rick Nash, zuccarello and zetterberg who would you go with and why?

What is your projection for panarin going forward into next season and beyond?

    Thanks

Keeping Karlsson Short Shifts – The Wilkes-Jarry Penguins

Elizabeth and Lewis are back to take listeners through a host of power play changes that are giving managers the opportunity to get exposure to great players off the waiver wire, including Philly, Jersey, and Tampa talk.
