Top Budget Plays

Centers

Scott Gomez $2,600 – With Jean-Gabriel Pageau kind of graduating from the budget plays, Gomez fits the bill in the sense that Toronto’s penalty kill can be questionable and so can their goaltending. Gomez still can pass the puck on the man-advantage like a wizard. He obviously does not shoot the puck a heck of a lot but there is a reason why you take a shot at this. Ottawa and Toronto should hit the over here. One can consider William Nylander as well as an option on Saturday.

Wingers

Nikita Soshnikov $3,600 – There is this guy with a huge, booming shot and his name is Soshnikov. The talk has been this is a player with more than just a shot and it is true. In his first six games, he has two goals and an assist along with a shootout winner. Ottawa may be surprised by the youngster’s speed as the Islanders were on Wednesday night. He will not be a value for long.

Defensemen

Ben Hutton $3,900 – There is a guy who is going to keep getting the minutes whether they are warranted or not. So far, they have been. Hutton has been playing over 23 minutes a night and climbing due to injuries to the Vancouver defensive core. He has been seeing increasing power play time and leads the team in that regard over the last half dozen games. He only has one goal on the year but is still just reasonably priced enough. This is a risky play because of shots on goal. However, he will get chances.

Goalie

Cam Talbot $7,100 – It is an understanding that all goalie value picks have a moderate to high amount of risk attached to them. Talbot has been better since the calendar year sporting around a .920 save percentage in that time. Drawing a game against Arizona never hurts the bottom line when you consider that the Coyotes have scored less than two goals a night on the road since December. All signs point toward the process that plays Talbot in cash and even some GPP’s on Saturday.

Centers

Connor McDavid $7,100 – McDavid has hit a bit of a rough stretch but do not let that fool you. Rookie phenoms like the centerman cannot be typically kept down for long. He does have 34 points in 32 games and has shown a bit of a feisty side of late. The Coyotes give up around 3.3 goals a game on the road. The selection has been made for better or for worse.     

Wingers

Jamie Benn $7,900 – Benneguin’s has had a tough time over the past few weeks and everyone gets it. However, maybe a tough game against St. Louis will finally jolt Benn out of the funk he has been. The game against Chicago on Friday may have been as big a catalyst as any but up until then he had no goals in his previous seven games despite averaging four shots a night. The PDO has been woefully low. The points will come.

Defenseman

Shayne Gostisbehere $6,000 – The Ghost is a great play and his price is not out of control compared to what he produces. That is the vital theory here as the defenseman has 37 points in 47 games on the season in what is his rookie year. Though he only has six points in his last ten games, he did recently pop two more goals in against Tampa. That gave him 14 tallies on the year. If he had played a whole year, he’d easily top 20 goals and still has a decent chance at doing it. His power play presence is too much not to play him even against Florida.

Goalie

Jonathan Quick $8,400 – Quick has been typically pretty good but not against New Jersey. However, this is not the same New Jersey the Kings had seen in February (that was Jersey’s high point). Since then, the Devils have been on a freefall while losing Cory Schneider and countless others. They say the injuries pile on and that should be an advantage for the Kings. The only concern is going to be can New Jersey get enough shots on goal on Quick. That has been an issue for the Devils all season. If Quick can make the timely saves, then this is a good play.
