Slumps galore as we review the 10 coldest players in the NHL right now

For most fantasy hockey general managers, this is the worst time of year for your players to go on a cold streak. Most fantasy leagues are in the stretch drive for the final couple of playoff spots, or maybe even starting the postseason itself. A guy going pointless over four or five games can cost you a playoff berth or a postseason victory. The players listed below are in the midst of a cold snap. Hopefully they’ll break out of it before your fantasy hockey season is done. To use our hot/not tools and review the full list of players click here. You can also set your own customized date window

10. Mike Green

After a hot start to the season (seven points in five games and 16 in his first 26), Green has tumbled down to earth pretty fast. Green now has zero points in his last eight games and just two in his last 13. Much of the Red Wings lineup has struggled this year. But if Detroit finally starts to rebuild, Green might start losing ice time to younger players. Or he would, If Detroit had any promising young defensemen.

9. Adam Henrique

So much for Henrique’s breakthrough season a year ago. In 2015-16, the Devils forward posted 30 goals and 50 points. There was plenty of optimism that the addition of Taylor Hall would help push Henrique’s numbers even higher. But the two never gelled and Henrique is on pace for 20 goals and 42 points. He has just two points in his last 11 games and is now playing with Beau Bennett and Pavel Zacha on the third line and is down on the second power play unit.

8. Mika Zibanajad

Zibanajad was on pace for a great season until a broken fibula forced him to miss almost 30 games. Since returning in mid-January, Zibanajad hasn’t been able to get his mojo back at all except for a small five-game streak. He has just three points in the past 10 games, and two of those points came in the same game. He’s even struggled in some of the peripheral categories such as faceoffs.

7. Ivan Provorov

Provorov needs a lot of help to become fantasy relevant. You would think the trading of Mark Streit would have helped but the jury is still out as it has only been two games. Regardless, Provorov has zero points in his last five games and just two in his last 16. The Flyers roll with four forwards and one defenseman on the power play, so Provorov needs either Shayne Gostisbehere to get injured or to prove he’s better than Ghost.

6. Dylan Larkin

Anyone who wants to argue about a sophomore slump will point to Larkin as exhibit A. After an impressive 23-goal, 45-point rookie season in 2015-16, Larkin has regressed in pretty much every fantasy-relevant category. He has just 21 points and is on pace for 27. A two-point effort against Edmonton on Saturday night gives Larkin just three points in his last 16 games. He’s a prime candidate for buy low in a keeper pool but this season is pretty much a write-off.

5. Justin Faulk

Carolina hasn’t been good for the past month or so, but part of that reason may be because of Faulk’s inability to put up points. Faulk is pointless in nine games despite taking 19 shots in that timeframe. Faulk’s plus-minus is bound to be low and he’s not great in peripherals. So any lack of offense from Faulk immediately means he’s more of a detriment to your team. He’s completely droppable in one-year leagues.

4. Charlie Coyle

Eight games ago, things were looking great for Coyle. He was at a career high 44 points and was on pace for 63 points. He’s pointless since then and is seeing his ice time drag down because of it. He’s been taken off the Nino Niederreiter/Eric Staal line and played with Martin Hanzal/Chris Stewart last night. He also somehow played on a third power play unit last night as well. His stock is dropping and won’t be recoverable as long he’s playing with stiffs.

3. Nick Foligno

We knew many of the Blue Jackets were going to slump this year as they had an unsustainable pace during their 16-game winning streak. There could have been quite of a few Columbus players on this list as Hartnell has one point in 12 games and Sam Gagner just this weekend broke out of a slump of two points in 13 games. Foligno’s five points in 14 games is worse since Foligno plays top minutes and is on the top power play unit. Foligno runs very streaky for big stretches so it wouldn’t surprise me if he got four or 16 points in his remaining 18 games.

2. Patric Hornqvist

Hornqvist’s slump is a bit of a mystery. He was on the third line yesterday with Matt Cullen and Chris Kunitz, but the majority of his even-strength shifts in his last 19 games have involved either Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin. And he’s still on the Pens top power-play unit, even playing more than five minutes with the man advantage last night. But he has just four points in 11 games. He’ll get back on track soon unless he’s taken off the top power play unit. In the meantime, you can enjoy the fact he’s still contributing a ton in other categories as he has 36 shots and 45 hits in his last 11 games.

1. Ryan Suter

It was looking like Suter was finally breaking through as a perennial 50-point threat. He had a career high 51 points last year and Suter had an excellent start with 30 points in his first 46 games. But he’s been ice cold lately with just four points in his last 17 games. It’s interesting that he’s been so frozen considering the Wild have scored 58 goals (3.4 goals per game) in those 17 games, Suter is easily the team’s number one power play defenseman and plays more than 25 minutes per game. You think he would almost fluke his way into more than three points. He’ll break out of the slump, hopefully in time for your fantasy playoffs.
