Here are the Top 100 defensemen to own in your points-only keeper league – April edition.

 

April, May and June are my "fun months". These are when I stop including this season's immediate payback, and look ahead to next year and onward. But I do it without crunching the numbers. My Fantasy Guide is out on August 1 and so the numbers, free agency, depth charts all get factored into July and August rankings. Until then, I go through player by player and focus more on their 3YP, upside, and then ballpark next season's points. Fun, right?

These are for points-only leagues, I look no further than three years ahead, players within +/- 5.0 rating points of each other should be considered equal and at that point become a matter of personal bias and/or team needs.

    Next year are we expecting John Carlson to regress to his career averages or is there a systematic change that can account for his career high in shots, assists and TOI?

    Would you really still pick Jake Walman over Vince Dunn? I think you underestimate the offensive potential to this kid. 24 points this year in rookie season with PP time. He played quite well overall (had ups and downs expected from a rookie) when asked to take Jay Bowmester’s top 4 spot, Still only 21 years old.

    -Jake Walman does not even have the Pt/G that Dunn has in the NHL, while he is in the AHL.

    -Dunn did way better than him in his AHL rookie season, while he was at this time two years younger than Walman now.

    -These are only the stats, but it is the exact same when you watch them play.

    I don’t say that there is 0% of chance that Walman becomes better than Dunn on the long run, but right now Dunn looks like a future offensive D and 1st/2nd PP quaterback at the NHL level, while I am not so sure what Walman is exactly..

      I think Walman is an offensive stud or bust, whereas Dunn already seems pigeon-holed as a two-way guy. Either way, I doubt we find out before 2024 who really is better. For now, I’d still rather Walman. As for the AHL, he struggled because St. Louis doesn’t have an AHL team – so Walman isn’t prioritized because the AHL coach prioritizes his parent team’s prospects (Shea Theodore in the first half). Dunn didn’t have that problem last year because St. Louis had an AHL farm team. Walman’s first half numbers really suffered with Theodore around.
