Gold Pick

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Edmonton Oilers (Over/Under 6.5) – Pick: Over -11

I've said it before, and I will say it again: Overs never die. You know I can't get these picks in each week without featuring an OVER bet in my Gold, Silver, or Bronze selections, so why not keep riding with the team that has been clicking for me with these kinds of picks in the Edmonton Oilers? Edmonton just seems to be one of these teams regularly involved in crooked-number games. Not to mention, both the Lightning and Oilers sit in the top-10 in scoring and we know the struggles that plague Edmonton within their blue paint, so let's keep this one super simple.

Three of the last four meetings between these two high-powered offensive groups featured at least seven goals, including their most-recent matchup which went OVER the total in a hurry by only the second period. The total has also gone OVER the number in nine of Tampa's last 12 games on the road and I like these trends to continue tonight in a game that should showcase a fired-up and hungry Lightning team which has taken tough losses in back-to-back games.

This one feels like it could be a run-and-gun type evening in which the Lightning get a few past Mikko Koskinen early, so make sure you jump on this number or even tease it down a little for a lower odd. Koskinen is 1-1-1 over his last three while posting a shaky .893 save percentage and allowing 10 goals, so I like this spot for a big night for the Bolts' top-six group against a backup-caliber goaltender. Hammer this OVER for my Gold Pick of the day.

Silver Pick

Arizona Coyotes @ Boston Bruins – Pick: Bruins (PL -1.5) -130

I said just above that I want to keep things really simple this week and this is another prime example with my Silver selection in the Boston Bruins on the puckline. Before I talk up Boston and the advantageous situation the Bruins find themselves in, I want to show some love to the Arizona Coyotes who have been playing some of the best hockey this franchise has witnessed in a number of seasons over the past two weeks.

Arizona has reeled off wins in four in a row which includes a victory against Cup favorite Colorado, a 9-2 smack show against the Detroit Red Wings, and a 5-4 thriller in overtime on the road against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Needless to say the Coyotes have been feeling it, especially up front with guys like Nick Schmaltz and Clayton Keller lighting it up offensively, but all that fun comes to an end tonight in Boston. Period.

As much as it pains me to continue to say, the Boston Bruins smell blood in the water and are nipping at the heels of the Leafs in the Atlantic Division only four points back of Toronto for the final divisional playoff spot. The Bruins do not miss a lot of these home ice opportunities against weak teams, especially when this group has looked so confident since getting Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron back from suspension and injury, respectively.

Not only have the Bruins been dominant of late while earning points in nine of their last 10, but they have COMPLETELY DOMINATED the Arizona Coyotes over recent meetings, going 10-0-0 overall and 7-0-0 in their last seven at home against the Desert Dogs.

No value here on the moneyline with Boston and considering I like this game to be decisive one in the Bruins' favor, I really do not mind laying a bet on the puckline -1.5 for some better value.

Bronze Pick

Josh Norris (Anytime Goalscorer) +175

If you haven’t been paying attention to all the elite young talent the Ottawa Senators have been assembling within their top-six forward group then you have likely missed out on the emergence of centreman Josh Norris.

A fourth-place finisher for the Calder Trophy only a season ago, Norris has already established himself as one of the best young pivots in the game while registering 39 goals and 67 points in his first 100 NHL games. The 22-year-old American is having a second-consecutive productive season in the Canadian capital despite getting derailed for a little over a month with a shoulder injury. The former 19th overall draft pick has 22 goals and 10 assists to lead the Senators in goalscoring despite playing in only 41 games this season.

Since returning from the aforementioned shoulder ailment five games ago, Norris has already regained his confidence, scoring touch, and chemistry with top-unit linemates Brady Tkachuk and Connor Brown while posting four goals and two assists. This kid is red-hot, he loves to shoot the puck, and the Blackhawks roll into town giving up the 11th-most shots-against per game and fourth-most goals against overall.

Great spot for both Norris and the Sens so let's ride the hot hand for my Bronze Pick of the day.

Vlad's Picks

It's bad, I've got a rare case of the March Malediction (yes, trust me, it's a real thing, don't Google it). That's two weak performances in a row for me and, as we're approaching the playoffs, I myself have to take that monkey off my back so I don't walk into the postseason while in a slump, otherwise repercussions of terrifying extent are awaiting me. Luckily for me, tonight is a fun Saturday, so let's get into it without further ado.

Gold Pick

Detroit Red Wings @ Calgary Flames – Pick: Flames

I have no choice but to start with a safe one.  What's pointing me the most towards this pick are Alex Nedeljkovic's recent showings. The former Calder Trophy candidate is recently crumbling behind his inexperienced yet talented defense. He has had save percentages above .900 only four times in his last ten games, while going below .800 three times. Again, the full blame cannot be placed on him when his team is letting more than 30 shots every other game. Despite Jakub Vrana's recent return, the Wings' offensive output should not be enough to match Calgary's.

Speaking of Calgary, is there one fanbase right now that's more anxious than them about re-signing their superstar? If ever there were some questions on whether or not that would be a good idea, Johnny Gaudreau made that very clear. He is currently rolling on a seven-game point streak during which he's had six tallies. He should be able to get his team to yet another victory.

Silver Pick

New York Rangers @ Dallas Stars (Over/under 5.5) – Pick: Under

This matchup tonight boasts a faceoff between two of the best young goalkeepers in the league. On the one side, Igor Shesterkin keeps making his argument for a Hart silverware stronger and stronger. He did have a misstep two days ago against St. Louis going below .800 for the first time this season, but, if that means anything based on his performances all year long, it's that he should have a strong bounce back night. On the other side, Jake Oettinger, who's making everyone forget that he's still 23 years old has become a much needed resource for a playoff hopeful Dallas Stars team who, after being carried by one of the best tandem of goalies in a single year to a cup run, has mightily struggled to find back that same steadiness in ents since then. Thus, I expect these two young studs to steal the show tonight and keep the score on the lower end.

Bronze Pick

Arizona Coyotes @ Boston Bruins – Pick: Bruins (-2.5)

All good things must come to an end, and, after four incredible wins in a row and some spectacular performances by some of its players, I do believe Arizona will be cooled down tonight. I don't attribute that prediction to the Coyotes themselves as they've clearly demonstrated that impossible isn't a thing for them this year, but more so to the Bruins and their status as a team as we're getting closer to the end of the season. While their playoff spot is pretty much guaranteed, just like the rest of the East's top eight this year, they are still perceived by the rest of the league as being a clear step below teams like Carolina, Florida or Toronto. While piercing that top three and getting out of the wild card spot would surely put Boston more at ease, it's not so much about rankings positioning for them as it is about going into the postseason on a high note. Well, that high note starts by clearly defeating an NCAA team at home on a Saturday night.

Side Bets

Anaheim Ducks @ New Jersey Devils – Pick: Devils (-1.5)

Los Angeles Kings @ San Jose Sharks (Over/under 5.5) – Pick: Over

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Edmonton Oilers – Pick: Lightning
