Top 50 Fantasy Prospect Defensemen – April, 2022

Here are the Top 50 prospect defensemen to own in your points-only dynasty leagues – April edition!

The first of my two annual audits are complete. This one has me going through every prospect in every system and see how they are doing, what their organization is saying about them, and taking a look at highlights. The second one will be in July, after the DobberProspects staff and I do another thorough review for the Fantasy Prospects Report (on sale in early May, available in mid-June).

Lots of movement this time. Huge movement. I graduated 30 players, including eight defensemen, so that alone moves the players that are lower on this list up eights spots. If they didn’t, then you know they didn’t perform as well as they could have and could almost be considered having ‘slipped’ despite moving up a few slots.

** Coming Soon! Pre-order Dobber’s 16th annual Interactive Playoff Draft List here! **

As always, players rated between +/-5.0 rating points of each other should be considered equal value and you will need to determine whether you value lower upside but more immediate help versus higher upside and more risk/longer wait time.

The following players graduated this month:

Tobias Bjornfot
Sebastian Aho (NYI)
Sean Durzi
Timothy Liljegren
Alexandre Carrier
Cal Foote
Andrew Peeke
Gustav Lindstrom

What are the requirements/definitions of a prospect and when does one “graduate”

    • Dobber 2022-04-14 at 13:21

No criteria, just when I decide they have near-0% chance of ever being sent down again. There is no harm in keeping prospects on the list a couple extra months.

Hi, just trying to understand why Josh Brook is still on the list. Two desastrous seasons and they sent him to the Trois-Riviere Lions recently. Without considering the other teams , the habs have the 3 better prospect D than him that are not on the list.

    • Dobber 2022-04-18 at 12:41

The two d-men you refer to have a rating of 28 and 27, so practically equal. Brook is higher because he’s a year older. Last season wasn’t disastrous, but this season I do agree. I will adjust him downward.

Keeping Karlsson Short Shifts – The Wilkes-Jarry Penguins

Elizabeth and Lewis are back to take listeners through a host of power play changes that are giving managers the opportunity to get exposure to great players off the waiver wire, including Philly, Jersey, and Tampa talk.
