DFS Tuesday: Oilers Roll and the Perfection Line

Brad Hayward

Before I hit the fantasy recommendations, congratulations to the Colorado Avalanche for their first-round sweep. Dominant (21-9 in goals scored) hardly is a strong enough word. And my Nathan MacKinnon play from last week (goals in all 4 games) was spot-on.But their next series will be an all-out war, and no promises that the Avs survive it.

With each of the Tuesday night Game 5 matchups starting out with 2-2 even records, I'll stick with my pattern of rolling out a stackable combination, a focus player from a different game, a can't lose goalkeeper, and then less expensive roster fillers. My lineup here plays from the DraftKings site, though I list both that and the Yahoo DFS values.

STACK:  The EDMONTON OILERS top line.   Connor McDavid ($8800, $37), Evander Kane ($6700, $27), and yeah Jesse Puljujarvi ($3500, $14), will light the lamp even-strength, and I'd add Evan Bouchard ($5000, $18), over PP-1 Tyson Barrie. The Oilers need to make a statement at home, and 1-0 isn't their style.

VALUE PICK:  Although he's on the road, I'm playing VLADIMIR TARASENKO ($6100, $26).  The Blues have rebounded from their 2-1 deficit and won't be offensively silenced. If Torey Krug and Nick Leddy both remain out, however, this may be a 5-4 (St. Louis) game decided in OT.

GOALIE: Wow. These playoffs have been high scoring across the board (with exceptions being Jacob Markstrom and Jake Oettinger). But tonight I'll play ANDREI VASILEVSKIY ($7800, $25)  to shock the Maple Leafs in the ScotiaBank Arena and put the defending champs just a win away from advancing.

ROSTER FILLERS:  Carolina's Vincent Trocheck ($3600, $17) and Jacob Slavin ($4700, $18), and Tampa's Alex Killorn ($3800, $15).

NOT CONVINCED:   Yeah, you noticed. The Perfection Line blew away the Hurricanes (bad pun intended) Saturday, with Brad Marchand having points on all 5 Bruins' goals. Not going to be repeated tonight. Carolina may be the class of the East, and takes this one… but still could lose the series in seven games.

Ok, my neck is clearly out there with predictions.   Good luck to all and bet responsibly.

Keeping Karlsson Short Shifts – The Wilkes-Jarry Penguins

Elizabeth and Lewis are back to take listeners through a host of power play changes that are giving managers the opportunity to get exposure to great players off the waiver wire, including Philly, Jersey, and Tampa talk. They also cover Jarry’s AHL demotion, Cooley’s ascension to the top-line and powerplay, and injuries to Tavares and Hintz. The duo wrap up with some hot and cold streak deep dives, including discussion of the Red Wings crazy powerplay success in the last ten games, whether Erik Gustafsson is rosterable or an overperforming illusion, Fantilli’s continued success, Merilainen as Hamburglar 2.0, and whether Schenn’s success and Neighbours’ lack thereof are likely to continue.
