DFS Saturday: Take Advantage of Nichushkin on Top Line

This Stanley Cup Finals matchup is a highly anticipated one with the great storyline of having the "best" team in the league who's been trying to get over the hump, facing off against the team who has been at the top of the mountain each of the past two seasons. Even with the hype, Game 1 certainly didn't disappoint with an overtime thriller highlighted by a few slick goals. Hopefully Saturday's game can be just as good.
Looking back at Game 1, neither goalie really shined from a fantasy perspective with both giving up three or more goals. Brad Hayward almost nailed the score in his article Tuesday, predicting a 5-3 game where he suggested passing over both goalies for showdown, which ended up being the right strategy. Of course it was 4-3 but that's another good example of tailoring your lineup to the projected game outcome you're expecting, which should be what you're doing while thinking through your showdown lineup construction.
I think building another lineup full of skaters with the expectation of a 4-3 or 5-3 type of game again makes a lot of sense. However, for the sake of trying to be different I'm going to build one geared more toward say a 3-1 Colorado win.
I'm going to start with Valeri Nichushkin in my captain's spot as a bit of a salary saver compared to the bigger names. Nichushkin attempted 11 shots on goal in Game 1, good for six on net, and also picked up a goal and an assist. His 25.5 DraftKings points translated to 38.25 points in the captain's spot thanks to the 1.5x multiplier. I'll stack him with of course Nathan MacKinnon who had five shots and an assist of his own. That line controlled a whopping 86% of the Corsi For at five on five Wednesday, meaning they were almost always in possession of the puck when on the ice.
From there, Cale Makar is sure to receive some positive regression after failing to record a shot on goal in Game 1 despite attempting nine shots. I'll put him in my lineup with the overtime hero Andre Burakovsky, who's still the cheapest Colorado top-six forward available despite seeing a price bump. With a 3-1 predicted score Darcy Kuemper should rack up enough saves to be worthy of rostering in a flex spot, in addition to getting credit for the win.
To round out my stack, I'll look at one of Ross Colton or Erik Cernak from the Lightning. Cernak may be the safer bet having averaged 6.8 DraftKings points over the last four games, whereas Colton is the more boom/bust option as you'll most likely need him to score a goal to pay off, something he just missed doing Wednesday but has done 27 times so far this year.
Best of luck with your lineups!
